As we saw from her Fall 2012 offerings, Mary Katrantzou has a knack for turning the everyday into the extraordinary. The BFC “Designer of the Year” nominee did it again for Spring 2013, drawing inspiration from the inconsequential– stamps and currency, transforming them into glorious works of wearable art.
Katrantzou blew up and pieced together images of stamps into bold and colorful, yet fluid patterns. Silhouettes ranged from sporty shirtdresses, to dreamy, flowing gowns.
The designer superimposed the mad, swirling artwork we never notice on different currencies, onto dresses, separates, and smart suit sets.
Season after season, Mary Katrantzou manages to dazzle us all. The woman is a master at manipulating prints. She keeps her somewhat madcap aesthetic dreamy, beautiful, and wearable at the same time. Lala Anthony and Solange Knowles (how great would she look in that white cape dress?) are fans of the designer, but I’d love to see new fashion it-girl Azealia Banks in a few of these looks.
What do you think?
