Indie designers are having lots of fun playing with names of historic fashion houses, as Ssur Inc’s popular Comme Des F*ckDown branded products display. The creators of C.O.I aka Conflict of Interest are jumping on the trend, similarly toying with tags like Givenchy and Balenciaga, emblazoning t-shirts with plays on words like Giraunchy and Ballinciaga.

With similar designs at a fraction of the price (most ring it at $60), the super limited edition crewnecks make you wonder, “What’s in a Name?”

Names are the cornerstone to any brand, though it’s a bit outrageous some fashion houses will charge $300-$500 for a cotton creation printed with little more than a logo. Lower priced options like the ones featured give you a similar feel without being a ‘knock off’ per se; adding raunchy to Givenchy is saucy and a bit tongue-in-cheek, though the tee still tangentially benefits from the Givenchy aesthetic and the legacy and hype attached to the brand.

Do you find t-shirts like these problematic? Or are they just good fun? And would you be more likely to rock one of these over an actual Givenchy or Balenciaga t-shirt?

If you like C.O.I. tees, they’re be available for purchase today. Get yours at Coi-nyc.com.

I dig it. I too am a “street wear” designer who finds most of my inspiration from high fashion. I’m not sure how the Bodega shirt will translate in the marketplace just because most people are not familiar w/the reference (Bottega Veneta). I would love to see their take on Celine…

I find them pretty cool, especially the Bodega one but nowhere near as good as the Commes des F***down branding!

I like them, but I agree Commes des F down is the absolute best. I don’t think they take away from the designers because ppl who are going to spend $300 on a tee will do so regardless of the lesser expensive option.
