• André Leon Talley and Ralph Rucci sat down for a chat with Robin Givhan this weekend at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), to chat about how the internet has changed fashion, and, naturally, Beyonce’s Met Gala appearance. The “Love on Top” singer was not supposed to attend the event, said Mr. Talley: “Beyonce was not slated to come. She decided to come last minute when the dress [which he later said took 350 hours to sew] arrived at her house. She tried it on and then she said, ‘okay, I have to come.’ She did arrive at 8:55 and the ball had already started but it didn’t matter because she is Beyonce.” Meanwhile, poor Kim Kardashian was (allegedly) not allowed on the premises! But it seems Anna Wintour isn’t the only fashion bigwig that isn’t feeling the reality star. When Givahn asked Rucci if he would ever dress Ms. Kardashian, he replied; “No, I think that’s bastardizing yourself [as a designer].” Ouch! (Fashionista)
• Plus-sized model Candice Huffine covers this month’s S Moda, and of course, she ain’t got no clothes on. Wouldn’t it be nice to see a plus sized high fashion spread where the models are wearing actual clothes? A girl can dream… (The Gloss)
• Gucci was awarded $4.5 million in their trademark infringement case against Guess. But this sum is only a fraction of what Gucci wanted. If you remember, the luxury brand accused the high street retailer of knocking off the signature Gucci G’s in some of their shoe designs. Gucci claims that Guess knocked off over $200 million in product, and initially sued for $221 million. Guess you can’t always get what you want. (WWD)
• Brooklyn Industries is ringing in spring, asking the tough questions about racism in Brooklyn. The retailer set up window displays featuring questions like “Does Brooklyn represent diversity, or a place where cultures and races remain separate?” and “How does your view of race and culture differ from your parents?” What do you think? Are these displays a good tool in sparking discussion, or are they just sensationalist and annoying? (Racked)
• Fish pedicures, a process in which you place your feet in water as live one-inch carp feed on your dead skin and toe jam, have been deemed unsafe by the Center for Disease Control. Apparently, the fish carry bacteria that could lead to infections in human beings. While only a few people have actually experienced said infections, the report says that “these fish, or their transport water, might harbor pathogens of clinical relevance.” So for your health, please just get your toes done the old fashioned way. Guess was flagrant with their trademark infringement. This is good for fashion. Read more about the case on my blog.

I wonder how many people are infected from the fish overseas. My sister is in South Korea and indulges in those type of pedis on a regular basis. Thanks for sharing.

It may seem like people are being hard on Kim K. But when society shuns you , it is a signal to change your ways. Look at Nicole Richie. People are willing to give you a second chance if you change. I bet if she quit reality tv and went to university or started dedicating more than photo op time to a charity people would start respecting her.

I’m terrified of getting those fish pedi’s just because i’m nervous that would break some skin or something.

Good post! I personally like the Brooklyn Industries window. It does spark conversation. Brooklyn heights brownstones don’t look much different inside than a scene from the help…except the accent may be more west Indian than Southern. Of course it is one of the most diverse places…but it could stand to be a little more inclusive and close knit. #ijs
