• Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing is taking top model Joan Smalls to the Met Gala. And he’s super excited about it. “She could wear a white t-shirt, and I would be so proud.” Aww. Rousteing says Smalls hasn’t even picked a dress yet, but we know whatever she wears, she’s going to look stunning. (ELLE)
• Nicola Formichetti is planning on releasing his own line, which he says will be “very digitally oriented and high-tech.” The Lady Gaga stylist wants to create clothes that can charge your cell phone, use solar power, and mold to your body. Crazy! Expect the line to debut in 2013. (WWD)
• Dior‘s newly-appointed creative director Raf Simons is featured on one i-D‘s eight covers for their “Lights, Camera, Action” issue. Inside, the designer talks his last collection with Jil Sander, describing it as “…very wholesome, very romantic. Kind of like when you’re outside, walking in nature. Beauty isn’t always obvious; you have to search for it. That’s what I find most romantic.” (Fashionista)
• Vogue just won an award from the American Society of Magazine Editors‘ National Magazine Awards for outstanding photography. I guess those guys really dig those shots of models jumping in front of solid backgrounds. Yawn. (Styleite)

• Iris Apfel is set to release ‘Extinction,’ a 12-piece range of handbags made from exotic materials. The bags will be big and colorful, made from mongolian lamb, calf hair, and snakeskin. Prices are pretty reasonable, starting at $228-$398. (Telegraph)

Olivier Rousteing is fine! He and Joan Smalls will probably be the best looking ‘couple’ at the MET.
