Tatyana Ali attended BET’s 2012 Upfronts last night in quite the patriotic outfit. The star of BET’s forthcoming sitcom, “Second Generation Wayans,” posed in a vintage Catherine Malandrino American Flag Print dress accented by $298 Diane von Furstenberg Zia Metallic Cork Sandals.

The $450 flag draped frock first debuted as part of Malandrino’s Fall 2001 line to express patriotism after 9/11. The dress was revived in the brand’s Spring 2009 collection to show support for Barack Obama’s Presidential campaign. The stars and stripes print dress has been worn over the years by Meryl Streep, Halle Berry, and more.

Ali’s cork sandals have a metallic, crackled leather upper, cork platforms, and a 5″ heel.

I actually don’t mind the dress, but think a white pointed pump could have worked! Sometimes white pumps get a hmm, but in this instance, it would’ve been hot.
What do you think?

Tatyana’s dress is sold out in stores, though you can get a previously owned version for $500 at www.bonanza.com. Get her sandals at Footnotesonline.
*Just for fun, see how Meryl Streep and Halle Berry wore their versions:

Ohhhh NO!!!!
April 19, 2012 1:05 pm

DID SHE DO THIS 2 HER SELF??

The dress is ten years+. So maybe we can think of it as a vintage look.
April 19, 2012 1:13 pm
Oddly enough, I like it! I’d like to see Halle’s footwear.

stars*
I don’t mind the dress; it looks best on Halle. I wish Tatyna’s makeup didn’t match her dress so much, though. The shoes look good on her, as well. Def not a white AND pointed pump, lol. Never.

LOL! I literally went “Hmm” when I saw her picture. It seems to have aged her…Perhaps it’s the hemline. I think it looks best on Halle. Motha Meryl looked lovely as well.

It makes her look a bit mature if it was a top with some demin shorts with a red platform pump it would have been cute!!! DONT LIKE IT AS A DRESS ESP ON HER!!!
April 19, 2012 1:48 pm
J’aime beaucoup. C’est gavé Jolie.
April 19, 2012 1:48 pm
She looks like a thick Zoe Saldana. They could be sisters. And fashion/make-up wise, she never gets it right. I saw her back in the days on Harvard Campus and she had no make-up on, a bit skinnier, she looked a hell lot better…very pretty!

<3 Meryl!!
April 19, 2012 2:06 pm
Love the dress but not feeling the shoes with it.
April 19, 2012 2:15 pm
I think it’s cute! Not something I would personally wear, but she pulls it off well! Minus the shoes…
April 19, 2012 2:18 pm
I think she looks great. I think the busy-ness behind her is taking away from the look and not allowing her to shine through.
April 19, 2012 2:48 pm
Why does she look so old?
April 19, 2012 2:49 pm
Tati would’ve looked cute with a pony-tail or top knot. Every time you post her pic I pray for an Eartha Kitt bio starring her (I am a serious Eartha stan).
Halle’s is cuter because it’s sleeveless & I’m not even going to comment on Meryl x_x

The patriotic look has really caught on this year. Love it!
Work it Tatyana !
April 19, 2012 4:34 pm
Love the shoes, but cant get with the dress. Maybe i would like it better if it weren’t for the uber busy fluorescent backdrop of the pic…. I did like the sleeveless version in Hale’s pic, however
April 19, 2012 5:24 pm
The fit is great but my personal taste does not coincide with wearing the American flag as a dress.
April 19, 2012 8:57 pm
I’m not really a patriotic type of person, but I actually love the dress. She looks fresh!
April 20, 2012 5:18 am
The hair is what sucks!
April 20, 2012 11:56 am
This is horrid .
April 20, 2012 1:29 pm
I like the outfit, hate the makeup. The make up aged her and she could have put her hair up into a messy bun and made it s little more young and flirty. I wish I could find the dress because I love it and will wear it in a heart beat. Short the hemline and were out in about the summer days.

How can a dress look so fabulous on a model but so ugly on her? I don’t like American or British flags incorporated in clothes, and this dress is just ugly.
April 20, 2012 2:52 pm
I think she would have looked better if her hair was styled differently, and maybe a different shoe. But overall I’m not really feeling it.
April 20, 2012 6:58 pm
I think the dress is cute! And everyone would have loved it immediately if it were on Rihanna.
April 21, 2012 4:15 pm
Terrible! She looks old!
