• It’s been confirmed: CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winner Joseph Altuzarra will collaborate with J.Crew on a limited edition capsule collection, due out in the next few weeks! Other CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winners have collaborated with the retailer– last year both Eddie Borgo and Prabal Gurung had capsules with J.Crew. “Well, it was a really interesting project because it was like a conflation of their language — or of their world — [and] of our world and putting it together.” (Fashionista)
• Marc Jacobs is planning to launch Marc Jacobs Dot, a new women’s fragrance, this August. Dot will be part of a triumvurate of Marc Jacobs brand fragrances, including Lola and Daisy. (WWD)
• Dolce & Gabbana is not to be parodied. The Italian fashion house is suing South African Gift shop, Dolce & Banana. While the tiny shop sells only jewelry and purses, Dolce & Gabbana claims its existence damages their brand. This dire impact they describe is arguably, quite overblown, as there is no Dolce & Gabbana store in South Africa, and I’m sure locals would never mistake the gift shop’s beaded necklaces with the brand’s masterfully crafted handbags and jewelry. • New York Times writer Alexandra Jacobs headed over to Zara‘s new 5th avenue store to play my favorite game, “name that knockoff.” We all know Zara produces several pieces “inspired” by designer collections. During her trip, she spotted “sad Victoria Beckham,” Balmain, Theysken’s Theory, Pierre Hardy, and Prada knockoffs, as well as a very stressed out staff. So if you’re searching for a cheaper version of Louis Vuitton‘s Spring 2012 eyelet blouses, Zara’s your spot. (NYT)
