Emporio Armani is a brand known for its elegance and sensuality, but for Fall 2012, Giorgio Armani gave the line a spin with a dose of femininity and whimsy. “Little Winter Follies” was the name of the collection and it perfectly blended function, girlishness and wit. Its most noted pieces were the bermuda shorts that accompanying looks which were tomboy-inspired at times, chic and polished at others.
Textured berets, full flouncy skirts, polka dots, rosette detailing: the collection oozed a flirty, coquettish vibe. Flats were the footwear of choice with not a heel in sight, adding to the playful nature of the pieces.
Velvet was one of the main fabrics in the collection featured on blazers, dresses and those tried and true bermudas.
It wasn’t all about femininity, as menswear-inspired tailoring was factored in with a plethora of blazers and suit jackets, great for working women and those who like to borrow from the boys.
Some of the most delightful looks were the evening dresses. With a quick change and removal of the bermuda shorts, they could definitely be seen on the red carpet.
Such a fun and unexpected collection! This is not at all what I would have expected from Giorgio Armani and I must say that I am pleasantly surprised. I loved the juxtaposition of femininity with classically masculine style elements and I think that the bermuda shorts will certainly be a big hit for retail as long as they are reasonably priced. I think this collection will be perfect for the likes of Corinne Bailey Rae and Solange Knowles so here’s to hoping they rock one of these dresses this year.
What do you think of Emporio Armani’s latest collection?

I really like this show too Claire. I do see the mix of femininity but some masculine pieces. It’s a great balance and with the dark solid colors and velvet material, it just looks very sophisticated. Thumbs up!
