Fresh from his recent CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund win, Joseph Altuzarra takes another lap around the winner’s circle with his exquisite Fall 2012 collection, replete with small coins adorning everything from cummerbund belts to strong-shouldered jackets. I wonder if he’s trying to remind us of his triumphant win in November by embellishing his pieces with effects reminiscent of tiny gold and silver medals? Who needs jewelry when you can wear these pieces? Printed with a red, orange and yellow Moroccan Berber carpet pattern, the sonorous drama of these looks excite several of our senses.
Taking a small break from the Eastern and North African aesthetics he channels at the start of the show, Altuzarra proposes ashen black dresses, quickly moving to heather gray and navy separates with the restrained detail of military structuring, complemented by the whimsical mirrored puff-ball-adorned embroidery decorating a selection of sweaters.
The mood of luxurious excess continues with a few black and white geometric printed knits (a cross between ikat and fairisle patterns,) uplifted with generous serving of white fur.
This is an exciting, assured offering from Altuzarra. I love the barely hampered flamboyance of the collection. It’s ornamental indeed, still each look promises to flatter and not overwhelm the wearer.

I do like that its orientated-based. I do feel like they were a bit overpowering.

I am loving the knee high boots and the african style inspiration! They all hit a high note and the colors blend in very well with the overall theme.

I much prefer the later half of the show. All of the coin-embellished pieces are a bit much.
