Giles Deacon has come a long way from colored wigs and eccentric silhouettes and has really solidified his brand as a go-to for the modern stylish woman. He has never lost his sense of whimsy and his quirky sensibility, but his designs are now both functional and fashion forward, truly taking him to a whole new level. His Pre-Fall 2012 collection, modeled by Nyasha Matonhodze and Xiao Wen, is robust and full of pieces for everyone from the loyal Giles fan to a woman trying his designs for the first time.
Retro-inspired femininity and flirty silhouettes are what Pre Fall 2012 is all about, but there is also a strong sense of modernity, shown best in a single-breasted navy power suit.
Giles really finds ways to make 1960′s and 1970′s silhouettes relevant for the 2012 woman.
Some looks might not translate for everyday and seem better worn on the set of Mad Men, but a pale pink pantsuit is delightful in the office, or separately paired with edgy accessories.
A very strong collection for Giles, though lacking in his signature edge and all of the fun design elements that really make his pieces special. I have no doubt that Pre-Fall will be big revenue-wise because these looks are wearable and I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see a few ladies who lunch latching onto his brand.
