But whatever your plans or wherever the holiday takes you, we have three glittery ideas for what you can do with your makeup:
1. Glitter cat eye: You can add some bling to either your neutral or more dramatic looks with glitter liner. For a simple look, grab a liner like Iman Luxury Liquid Eyeliner, NYX Candy Glitter Liner, Make Up For Ever Aqua Liner, or turn your glittery shadows into liner with a spritz of water and a liner brush. Or if you want something more dramatic, try this look worn by Nicole Scherzinger:
To get this look, apply your liquid liner a little thick along the outer corners of the eyes (if you’re a little shaky about applying liquid liner, applying it in sections makes it much easier). Then take a little glitter adhesive (like Too Faced Shadow Insurance Glitter Glue Glitter Bonding Eye Shadow Primer or a touch of DUO Lash Adhesive at your local drugstore) and apply either loose eye-safe glitter or eye-safe crystals like Make Up For Ever Strass along the “tail” of the liner. Be very careful not to apply any of the adhesive, glycerin, or glitters too close to your eyeballs.
2. Full-on sparkle: Add a layer of fun glitter to your smoky eye for auld lang syne! You can easily do it by using a mineral shadow like Milani Baked Eyeshadow in Melange wet to intensify the gold shimmer or go even more bold by using a mixing medium like MAC Mixing Medium Eye or an adhesive like Too Faced Shadow Insurance Glitter Glue Glitter Bonding Eye Shadow Primer (or again, a touch of glycerin found at your local drugstore) and use loose glitter pigments like Make Up For Ever Glitters to apply Jennifer Lopez-like bling on the eyes.
3. Put it on the lips: Add dimension to your lips by applying a glittery gloss like Fashion Fair Lip Teaser in Liquid Silver. If you want a full-on drama look, mix some loose glitter with your cream lipstick or gloss.
Quick glitter makeup tips: When applying glitter to one part of the face, stay pretty simple everywhere else. If you’re doing glitter eye makeup and you tend to have a shaky hand leaving glitter fallout all over your face, try applying your foundation after your eye makeup to avoid having to redo your base. A piece of tape is handy for removing stubborn glitter fallout and when completely removing it, use an oil-based makeup remover.
