• American Shoe company Coclico has a pair of knee high boots for sale on Amazon.com that come in the season’s most coveted shade, Kentucky Negro, to match your Latino tan pants from Temperley London.
Coclico makes more than one shoe in this “negro” shade, but on their main website, they refer to the color as “black.” While several apologists have been rationalizing this glaring misnomer, saying “negro means black in Spanish and Portuguese,” the company does not make any shoes in “Southern Redneck.” (Styleite)
• Jennifer Saunders has confirmed to New York Magazine, that she is indeed writing an AbFab movie, to be shot “in a beautiful part of the Riviera. I fancy the south of France in the spring,” she said. The writer/actress is also in the process of writing an AbFab TV Special to celebrate the London Olympics in August of 2012 (Huff Post, NYMag)
• Rumor is spreading through the twitterverse that Beyoncé has already given birth to a baby girl, and her name is Tiana-May Carter. Why the UK Mirror has picked up on this story is beyond me, as the child is clearly going to be named Brooklyn, and will share the last names of both her parents. Duh! Any stan worth her weight in Bohemian/Yaki hair knows this! (UK Mirror)
• Felita Harris, Senior VP of global sales for Donna Karan, talks to Style Blazer about how she built a successful career in fashion. (Style Blazer)
• If your Target x Missoni order was cancelled, you may be getting the pieces you asked for after all– for free. Target has been sending slighted customers e-mails saying their (very late) orders are on the way, and they will not be charged. (The Cut)

About Kentucky negro, come on really, I doubt that it was really something racist.. There are fare to many things that are over analyzed so that they become offensive to people and become something racist. I am black and Latina and it’s obvious that negro means black in Spanish and has nothing to do with being racist it’s a color. It is also so annoying when someone goes off at the word negrita or negrito, that is not anything to do the with way these ignorant white racists made the n word. Negrita or negrito when referred to a person that is black in no way, shape or form is a bad word or racist, it’s actually a word of endearment and you say it in a sweet way, for Latinos there are so many shades from some Cubans being white as snow and some Dominicans being black as night. But when Latinos use the word negrita to refer to someone who is black some black people go off and start yelling and acting a fool when they have no idea what the word really means! Latinos also refer to white people as blanquita which is the same thing a sweet way of saying white girl. For me being both races has taught be allot about each side and I’m proud of both but I wish that the black community would be so offend by something that truly aren’t racist. Just wanted to put that out there. Love this site love the fashion! Ciao chicas.

@lanenabuena: we’re not talking about a Spanish speaking company, we’re talking about an American company, who should know better. I’m not sure what the term “negrita” has to do with this particular situation. No one is getting on anyone for the use of “negrita?”

Colico advertise their shoes as “European made” for an American brand and it is well known that “Negro” or its similar forms mean the shade “black” in several European languages (or at least the Latin based, or Latin influenced languages). I am more inclined to believe that they are attempting to further push the “European made” thing, and not trying to degrade any race of people or any African American community. Also, “Redneck” doesn’t translate to any colour in any language, so while I appreciate the sarcasm, it’s not a fair point to make.
I get and I agree with @lanenabuena in her point about not taking every form of this word and assuming it to be a racial slur. To my way of thinking, that really only enables racism by throwing more fuel on the fire.
