Who Wore it Better? Kelly Rowland vs. Alicia Keys in Giuseppe Zanotti Beige and Black Peep Toes

    by Claire

Kelly Rowland appeared on the X Factor UK in a stunning black leather Topshop dress accented by the same Giuseppe Zanotti peep toes Alicia Keys wore to the Premiere of Five.

Both ladies went for all black, with Kelly in a thigh skimming halter (gamely paired with an Azzedine Alaia waist belt), and Alicia in a DSquared2 Leather Sleeve Blazer and a knee length pencil skirt. Because celebs like to torture you, the two-toned Resort 2011 shoes are not yet available. We’ll let you know when they are!
In the meantime, who wore ‘em better?

*If you like Alicia’s look, we broke it down here.

Lookbook: LaQuan Smith’s LQS “Eclipse” Fall 2011 Collection

    by Claire

“Eclipse” is the latest collection from designer LaQuan Smith’s ready to wear/diffusion line, LQS.

Futuristic and subtle, the foray includes an array of textures, sharp silhouettes, cute cut outs, and bold shoulders.

Gone are the electric pinks, blues, and peaches characterizing LaQuan’s last Hard Candy collection. Fall/Winter 2011-2012 is all about neutral blacks, conservative navies, and winter whites.

Smiths says, “The Eclipse collection is young, fun, and hip with a flare of classic luxury that works for every woman.”

I have my eyes on a few pieces, particularly the black shift dress, lace top, and one shoulder mini. I’m also very tempted by this asymmetrical skirt:

    Hot!

Beauty Bomb: How to Lighten Dark Lips

    by Danielle

    20111025-093125.jpg

Sydney writes in asking, “Hey guys! I’ve seen posts about what to do if you have dark elbows but I was wondering if you had any tricks up your sleeve for dark lips? I’m not sure if I was just born with darker lips or if they come from my smoker past but I really want nice pink lips! HELP! Thanks!”

    Hey Sydney!

I’m glad to hear that smoking is in your past because not only can it lead to cancers, it can also age the skin terribly. It could be a combo of both (were your lips dark before you started smoking?), but having darker or two-toned lips can be pretty common with brown skin.

Your first defense would be to prevent further darkening by making sure you exfoliate your lips (rubbing a wet toothbrush over them or use a gentle scrub) and be sure to use a balm that contains SPF. You can also use a natural lightener like fresh lemons to help brighten the color of your lips over time.

Since you won’t get your lips as pink as I suspect you want them, I say make friends with bold lip color. You can also use concealer (like Black Opal Lip Corrector) or a nude lip pencil to get the base color you want if you wish to rock lighter lip colors.

Besides–darker lips can be your thing. Like how Tyra has her forehead.

The Fashion Bomb News Breakdown: June Ambrose Talks Style with the New York Times, A Look at Gareth Pugh x M.A.C., and the Decline of Couture

    by Jihan

    • June Ambrose sits down with Lola Ogunnaike of the New York Times to discuss her illustrious career, her new reality show, and her humble beginnings. The Bronx native wasn’t always lauded for her fab personal style: “As a teenager in the ’80s, she dressed in elaborate get-ups to glamour-flage her severe acne. She was often teased as the odd duck. ‘I’d wear a ponytail with watches in my hair or mismatched tights,’ she said. ‘They didn’t know what to make of me.’” (NYTimes)

    • Christian Louboutin has an ally in the fight to retain his trademark red sole. While YSL insists that colors cannot be trademarked, Tiffany & Co, filed a legal brief saying that they indeed can. The jewelry company has trademarked its iconic blue box. I think the best way to settle this is for Mr. Louboutin to go to Crayola and request a “Louboutin red” shade. Because if it’s in the Crayola box, you know it’s official. (The Cut)

    • The first images of designer Gareth Pugh‘s collaboration with M.A.C. are here! The collection consists mostly of grays, plums, and lavender hues offset by a sprinkling of neutral tones. I am clearly in need of that deep purple eyeshadow and those nail lacquers. See anything you fancy? (Fashionista)

    • Louis Vuitton shoes, Louis Vuitton luggage, and now, Louis Vuitton perfume. The famed design house is said to be releasing its first fragrance soon. (WWD)

    • The Wall Street Journal explores the increasingly elaborate world of ready-to-wear, and the decline of couture:“Perhaps this new high-end side of ready-to-wear, referred to by many as demi-couture, is what couture looks like in the 21st century. These clothes have hefty price tags, which run from the mid-four figures into the fives, but are sold off the rack, typically through the usual retail channels. By contrast, haute couture, shown twice a year in Paris, is governed by strict rules set by the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture. The code dictates the minimum number of employees in an atelier (20) and the minimum number of looks in a show (25), and requires that garments be hand-sewn and made to clients’ measurements. But the customers who have the time to fly to Paris to sit through shows, lunch at Maxim’s and visit designer ateliers for multiple fittings are few and far between these days.” While they have a point, I don’t think couture will ever die. As long as trophy wives with nothing to do exist, there will always be someone sniffing around the atelier. (WSJ)

Kanye West Named #5 Most Influential Man of 2011 By AskMen.com + Our Top 5 Male Style Influencers

    by The Fashion Bomb Staff

People either seem to love or hate Kanye West, but two things that no one can deny are his talent and influence. He sets trends with each album and red carpet appearance and now that he is a bonafide celebrity designer, he will also be setting trends in fashion, though his much talked about Céline shirt at Coachella has already started him well on that path.

AskMen.com named Mr. West as its #5 most influential man of 2011. He ranked higher than his bff, mentor and fellow rapper, Jay-Z, and was just a few notches under Warren Buffett and Steve Jobs. Not bad for a guy from the Chi right?

Kanye isn’t the only one at the reins of men’s fashion. Here are our top five male style influencers.

    1. Pharrell Williams

From the Bathing Ape craze to his always cool label, Billionaire Boys Club, Pharrell Williams has been setting trends for years. His eccentric looks are not for the faint of heart, but they truly express his individuality and love for high fashion.

    2. Ozwald Boateng

As the tailor and suit designer for the stars, Ozwald Boateng is a design phenom, opening his first shop on Savile Row at the young age of 23. He once held the position as the Creative Director of Menswear for Givenchy and his list of clients and accomplishments continues to grow with each season.

    3. Tinie Tempah

From Neil Barrett to exclusive Nikes, Tinie Tempah is fearless when it comes to his style. The 22 year-old British rapper is taking the fashion and music worlds by storm with his bold looks on and off stage.

    4. Joshua Kissi and Travis Gumbs of Street Etiquette

Ushering in a new era of black male style, Joshua Kissi and Travis Gumbs of street style blog, Street Etiquette, are changing the way black men are dressing and thinking about fashion. From motorcyle jackets to their favorite thrift store purchases, they are not only showcasing their cutting-edge style, but also showing men how they can achieve their looks.

    5. Amar’e Stoudemire

Amar’e Stoudemire is one of the world’s most popular athletes, but he is also a front-row mainstay at fashion shows, as well as a celebrity designer, collaborating on a womenswear capsule collection with Rachel Roy. He is leading the pack of basketball players who are known for their athletic prowess, but also for their fashion choices off the court.

Who are your favorite male style stars?

Hot! or Hmm…: Kerry Washington in Fall 2011 Ralph Lauren at An Evening With Ralph Lauren Hosted By Oprah Winfrey

    by Claire

Gorgeous Kerry Washington made an appearance at An Evening With Ralph Lauren Hosted By Oprah Winfrey in a Fall 2011 Ralph Lauren dress accessorized by a Raven Kauffman Couture ‘Charlie’ clutch:

She completed the showstopping look with a chignon and a fall perfect berry lip.

The beaded dress was originally modeled on the runway with a matching head cover:

Kerry’s modified look skewed less costumey, and simply..fabulous.

    What do you think?

Check out a few more pictures from the night:

Fashion Bombshell of the Day: Chianti from LA

    by Claire

Today’s Bombshell is the ever animated Chianti from LA:

She says, “I have recently gained confidence and I love the skin I am in. I have always had a passion for fashion and I have recently come to realize that I too am a stylista of color! “

” I know that I can do a lot better, but this is where I am for now.”

” I am going to keep adding to my wardrobe and in about 6 months I am going to email you again with better pictures of my fierce transformation! I’m the grass hopper and your my fashion masters!”

” I am a Comedic actress. I dress how I feel and usually that’s really happy so I express that through the colors I wear.”

” I like to be comfortable but I will sacrifice comfort it for some killer hills anytime! LOL I hope you like!”

Ah, Chianti, your personality certainly shines through in these pictures. You have fun with fashion and don’t take yourself too seriously. Love that colorful romper and contrasting cardigan.
    What do you guys think?
