Wardrobe Query: First Lady Michelle Obama’s Black Caucus Phoenix Awards Michael Kors Fall 2010 Sequin Fishtail Skirt

    by Claire

Stacey wrote, “I have a formal event coming up and would really like to recreate the look First Lady Michelle Obama wore to the Black Caucus Phoenix Awards.”

“Who designed it? And can you please help with some more affordable alternatives?”
First Lady Michelle Obama wore a black double face paillette fishtail skirt from Michael Kors’s Fall 2010 collection to the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Annual Phoenix Awards dinner in Washington, D.C. While the skirt debuted on the runway with a deep v neck top, FLOTUS went for conservative with a crew neck and Peter Soronen corset belt.

Since the look is from Fall 2010 (and we’re in Fall 2011), it is no longer available, and unfortunately there isn’t anything quite like it on the market. You can get the sequined maxi look with this number by Haute Hippie, though it doesn’t come in black (and it costs $1,295, which is probably a deal breaker):

If you’re ok with a similar general look, ASOS might be your best bet with this $153 Sequin Side Split Maxi Dress :

And if any black maxi fishtail skirt will work, try these on for size:

Weekend Hot! or Hmm…: Jennifer Lopez, Nicki Minaj, Angela Simmons and more!

    by Claire

    Hey everyone!
Vuitton here with a rundown of the weekend’s hottest looks as well as the looks of those who probably should have stayed under a rock.  With all the fashion month madness, it’s nice to stop and take in the stylish roses while trying to avoid being pricked by fashion faux pas thorns.  From music festivals to parties, the celebs were out if full force this weekend.  But who made the cut?

     Let’s take a look!

First up is Jennifer Lopez, who was spotted at the iHeartRadio Music Festival…

A modern take on a classic silhouette, the diva put her own spin on a high neck pink Camilla & Marc dress with fuchsia spiked peep toe booties.  Though I must say the dress was somewhat of a safe look compared to what we’re usually accustomed to from La Lopez, I loved that she kept it simple and brought the drama in the shoe.  Hot!

Nicole Scherzinger came to show face and legs as well…

She rocked a very cute sequined short suit with a white silk top and black patent leather Louboutin Daffodil platform pumps.  What I loved about her ensemble was how transitory it is.  The black mixed with a playful texture and length didn’t totally say goodbye to summer, but still doesn’t yearn for fall.  Get it?  Either way, she looked hot!

Nicki Minaj and her entire closet joined in on the festivities as well…

One can say a lot about Nicki Minaj, but one can never say that her mug is never beat to high heaven.  Makeup is always en pointe, and this picture is testament to that.  The ensemble, however, was much too much for me to properly analyze.  The big hair, the pink chicken wing necklace, the Super Sweet 16 dress, camouflage leggings and pink wellies simply didn’t cut the mustard for me.  Hmm… I honestly thought she was a character from a British children’s television show at first sight.

Eva Longoria smiled for the photogs at Variety’s 3rd Annual Women of Power event…

Fresh faced as can be, the actress wore a red belted tube dress with nude pumps.  Red wasn’t necessarily compulsory for all attendees to wear, thus I would’ve appreciated if Eva chose another color since she wears red and black so much.  Hmm…and she could have easily accessorized this simple frock with some bling.

Mary J. Blige was also in the building for the event…

…and could have taken Eva Longoria accessory shopping.  While I’m not a fan of Mary’s blonde hair, I must say that her cap sleeve belted red pencil dress looked stunning on her.  She completed her hot look with nude T-strap peep toe pumps and gold accessories.

At the 9th annual Teen Vogue Hollywood Party, Angela Simmons struck a pose for the cameras…

She wore a white top with a black bow, animal print skirt and red platform pumps.  While I loved the outfit itself because of the mix of classics and bold prints, the red shoes threw me off a bit.  Black pumps would have sufficed here, but it’s still a cute look.

Musician Raphael Saadiq showed face at the 25th annual amfAR event in Milano, Italy this weekend…

And I wanted everything he had on delivered to my doorstep.  It’s apparent he never lost his cool factor over the years wearing a black tuxedo sans neck or bow tie.  And that sealed the deal for me with his dapper look.  Again, mixing fall colors with summer elements make for a sophisticated, yet cool and approachable look.  Two thumbs up!

And last, but certainly not least, are  John Legend and Christine Teigen, who also made their way to amfAR’s event…

The couple that slays together, stays together.  However, my first thought… “Girl Christine, I can see your draws.” But the dress itself is beautiful, and I loved the risque element of it.  The color was a beautiful choice for her as well.  John Legend looked dapper as usual in a black tuxedo and shoes I need in my closet.  He never misses a beat.

And that’s that!  What say you, Bomb readers?

Real Style: Milan Spring 2012 Fashion Week Day 2

    by Claire

So today is the last day of Milan Fashion Week! Tomorrow I’ll be headed to Paris for the last leg of the stylish whirlwind that is Fashion Month. Every season gets better in good old Italy, and every season a few more invitations tumble my way.
This weekend, after attending the Emporio Armani and Just Cavalli shows, I spied the following British TV diva:

I didn’t catch her name, but her cute floral dress, floppy hat, and spotted clutch spoke to me. Extra snaps for her spiked bracelet, statement necklace, and Robin’s Egg blue pedicure. It’s always refreshing to see fashionistas play with color.

    What do you think?

    Smootches!

Weekend Beauty Hot! or Hmm…: Angela Simmons, Rihanna, Solange, and more!

    by Danielle

Happy Monday morning to ya, Bombshells!

Hope all your weekends were filled with nothing but fabulous things ;)

Let’s check in on some celebs…

Solange Knowles and her hair kicked it on the red carpet at the 9th Annual Teen Vogue Young Hollywood Party. I love me some Solange, but cannot in all honesty co-sign on the cropped Sideshow Bob ‘do. Nuh-uh, Solangel. Sowwwy.

Well look who done grew up and is looking all pretty and stuff! Camille Winbush also hit the Teen Vogue Party looking absolutely gorgeous . Uh, Camille—I’ll be needing that skin, those teeth, and those fabulous cheekbones. HOT!

Oh, Angela. I’m hoping this is the result of some horrific camera flash issue because this makeup is just not what we’re used to seeing on the young Miss Simmons. Hair is amazing though.

Proving that everyone born in 1981 is super cool, Christina Milian hit the scene at Katsuya over the weekend to celebrate her 30th birthday. She looks hot though I would have blended the smoky eye more and softened the brows, but why the sour face, Xtina? Turning 30 is a totally cool new chapter in your life. The fun has only just begun :)

So I’m torn on this pic of hottie Meagan Good. I’m super happy she’s wearing less makeup (because homegirl can pile it on for no reason at all) and letting her pretty gleam, but that cigarette in her hand is not what’s hot in the streets, kids.

Oh, Jennifer. I mean, maybe if there were more volume at the crown, this look would be much softer or maybe if she were smiling? I don’t know.

And finally Rihanna rocked it out in concert. Love the grey smoky eye and from what I can see of her lip color, it looks FAB, too. The hair is a little 90s “mall” girl, but she’s performing so maybe it fit this particular set. Always a hot chick though.

That completes this week’s Weekend Beauty Hot! or Hmm… Who was your fave?

The Fashion Bomb News Breakdown: Naomi Campbell Documentary to Air, Franca Sozzani Bored With Whitewashed Runways, and Raf Simons to Yves Saint Laurent?

    by Jihan

    • Everyone’s favorite (certainly not chocolate) diva, Naomi Campbell will be the subject of an upcoming installment of CNBC Meets. In addition to covering her illustrious career , “The documentary also recounts her fight to succeed in an industry that – until Campbell – had never valued a black model equally to a white one. Campbell talks about breaking barriers in fashion and attempting to open the doors for women of colour generally in her modelling and charity work.” While I’m unsure of this notion of equality within the fashion industry (just ask Leomie Anderson,) this sounds like a definite must-watch! The documentary will air September 28 at 10 PM in the UK, and stateside October 1 at 5:30PM ET. Will you guys be tuning in? (Vogue UK)

    • It seems Ms. Anna Wintour is looking to move up from her 69th spot on Forbes‘ list of Most Powerful Women. In an interview with Italian newspaper La Repubblica, the editrix attempts to rouse the Italian masses into rebellion against their salacious Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi. From the Wall Street Journal: “Ms. Wintour calls the Italian prime minister a dictator and urges the world of fashion to rebel against him during fashion week.” (WSJ)

    • Franca Sozzani is just as bored with the lack of diversity on the runway as we are. In an interview with The New York Times, the Vogue Italia Editor-in-Chief says: “The scouts only go to the eastern part of Europe now. Is it possible that all of the other countries do not have beautiful girls? I cannot believe that. I was so bored to see all these faces. They all looked alike. To make all the girls the same — blond, blue eyes, long legs — at the end, all of the clothes look alike.” (NYT)

    • Like a great deck of playing cards, top designers are shuffling to and fro between fashion houses. The New York Times‘ Suzy Menkes reports Raf Simons, creative director at Jil Sander will be making moves over to Yves Saint Laurent. (Fashionista)

    • Sessilee Lopez is giving it to us in this F/W ’11 ad for H by Halston. Stretch girl, stretch! (Models)

    • If you’re in New York City, check out Betsey Johnson‘s sample sale from September 28-Oct1, at the Millenium Broadway Hotel with fab pieces all at 75- 80% off! Sounds like steals galore!

    Show Review: Moschino Spring 2012

    by Claire

Moschino designer Rosella Jardini looked to Spanish culture to inspire the brand’s Spring 2012 collection, evoking flamenco dancers and bull fighters in each look.

Almost literal adaptations of historical costumes were modernized with the addition of embroidery, sequins, patches, and varying hem lengths. The brand’s signature bright colors were on high, as were look-at-me toreador hats, dramatic head pieces, satin bow ties, chunky gold jewelry, and cat eye sunglasses.

While only the exceedingly bold could pull off the modernized bull fighter ‘fits, any fashionista would rock the brand’s soft, flirty dresses and shimmery minis.

Loving Jourdan in that gold sequined number.
