I’m a little geeked that the high temperature tomorrow is 65 with a low of 50 in NYC. Not quite fall weather, but I’ll take it. To celebrate, let’s all wear plum eyeshadow!
What’s great about the deep, vampy hue is that it looks so much like red winecan define the eyes and give you a smoky look without being harsh. It also happens to be one of those great shades of makeup that looks good on all our brown skin tones.
Wear it alone as a single wash on the lid (never ever extend a dark color like this to the brow bone), use it to smoke out your outer V on an otherwise neutral look, grab an eyeshadow brush and use it as a liner for a pop of color, or pair it with just about any other color from gold to bronze to green to blue and beyond.
When rocking plum eyes, keep the rest of your makeup (blush, lips, etc.) in the plum, pink, peach, and neutral territory.

P.S. Your plum shadow can also double as a blush (hey, it is a powder). Just grab a blush brush, dip it in your shadow, tap off the excess, and gently sweep it on your cheekbones.

so have i! im not sure of the names, but mac has several that are VERY close to that violet-ish shade! i really wanted all of my purple life lipglass before it sold out!!! oh well.

@Joslyn hey! I haven’t seen a lipstick/gloss that looks exactly like that. I have a Dior Lipstick in #786 Mysterious Plum that comes close but is still not as purple and Afrobella’s MAC All of My Purple Life Lipglass could get you closer, but it’s sold out. MAC Violetta lipstick at MAC Pro stores also comes pretty close but isn’t as dark.
BUT you can “make” it.
Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics (OCC) makes a product called Lip Tar which are hybrids of lipstick and gloss (the consistency of a gloss but the creaminess and long wear of a lipstick) that you can mix together to create your own custom shades of lip color. If you mix the blue one with the red one or the deep purple one with a little black, you can get a similar shade.
Sleek MakeUP also makes a similar product that I like more than Lip Tars called Pout Paint. It’s less expensive than OCC Lip Tars, but the only draw is that unless you live in a country where it’s sold, you’ll have to pay shipping to have it sent. They have some awesome makeup at low drugstore price points though so if you do order make sure you order enough to justify the $13.50 flat shipping fee.

I just made a shade that was really close with products from my own stash. I used Covergirl’s Lip Perfection Lipstick in Embrace, Rimmel’s Black Diva lipgloss on top and NYX’x African Queen lipgloss on top of that. It came REALLY close to that color.
