• Everyone’s favorite (certainly not chocolate) diva, Naomi Campbell will be the subject of an upcoming installment of CNBC Meets. In addition to covering her illustrious career , “The documentary also recounts her fight to succeed in an industry that – until Campbell – had never valued a black model equally to a white one. Campbell talks about breaking barriers in fashion and attempting to open the doors for women of colour generally in her modelling and charity work.” While I’m unsure of this notion of equality within the fashion industry (just ask Leomie Anderson,) this sounds like a definite must-watch! The documentary will air September 28 at 10 PM in the UK, and stateside October 1 at 5:30PM ET. Will you guys be tuning in? (Vogue UK)
• It seems Ms. Anna Wintour is looking to move up from her 69th spot on Forbes‘ list of Most Powerful Women. In an interview with Italian newspaper La Repubblica, the editrix attempts to rouse the Italian masses into rebellion against their salacious Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi. From the Wall Street Journal: “Ms. Wintour calls the Italian prime minister a dictator and urges the world of fashion to rebel against him during fashion week.” (WSJ)
• Franca Sozzani is just as bored with the lack of diversity on the runway as we are. In an interview with The New York Times, the Vogue Italia Editor-in-Chief says: “The scouts only go to the eastern part of Europe now. Is it possible that all of the other countries do not have beautiful girls? I cannot believe that. I was so bored to see all these faces. They all looked alike. To make all the girls the same — blond, blue eyes, long legs — at the end, all of the clothes look alike.” (NYT)
• Like a great deck of playing cards, top designers are shuffling to and fro between fashion houses. The New York Times‘ Suzy Menkes reports Raf Simons, creative director at Jil Sander will be making moves over to Yves Saint Laurent. (Fashionista)
• Sessilee Lopez is giving it to us in this F/W ’11 ad for H by Halston. Stretch girl, stretch! (Models)
• If you’re in New York City, check out Betsey Johnson‘s sample sale from September 28-Oct1, at the Millenium Broadway Hotel with fab pieces all at 75- 80% off! Sounds like steals galore!

I mean, there were Black models before her, but none commanded the stage like Naomi! Hell, they aren’t White models that can do it like Naomi! Kate Moss is nice, but she can’t rock a runway to DEATH like Miss Campbell though. And the industry wanted the clothes to be the stars, not the models (it also keeps them from paying supermodel wages), so they figured that bland looking Eastern European models would make the clothes stand out more. But I’ve always said, Black makes it all look better…:)
