Designer Mary Katrantzou‘s spring 2012 collection emphatically embraces the natural beauty of the season with vibrant hues and structural mastery. Graphic geometric patterns take on a life of their own, leaping off expertly tailored frocks and structured suits.
Dresses finished with neat pencil hems or voluminous bubble skirts anchor picturesque garden scenes bursting forth with such presence, it looks like each flower is nodding its head in happy approval of the garment. Lively coral reef prints actively teem in spite of their physical immobility.
Bright fabric swaths plume behind gratuitous mullet hems adding an extra dash of drama to already standout pieces.
Unorthodox lip shades in blues and yellows seem to be trending on the catwalk this season, and Katranzou’s use of the unusual hues buttress the looks rather than overpower them. Models stomped down the runway in metallic Christian Louboutin strappy sandals, the perfect shoe to compliment look-at-me- pieces.
I am a stan for bold prints, so this collection is right up my alley! I love the joyful mood, and how the scene prints come to life as you move in them. I see plenty of red-carpet looks for fearless fashionistas like Rihanna and Kelis. What do you think? Love it or leave it?
