In a departure from the joyful saturated brights pervasive in spring collections, Rebecca Taylor opts for muted shades with irridescent undertones to give what would otherwise be drab hues ethereal dimension.
Pale, transparent asymmetrical layers served as the foundation for skirts and knee-length dresses billowing down the runway. Pieces were accented with lace, subtle shibori prints, and lots of sparkle. The literal narrative thread in this collection is the pearlescent tone present in the majority of the looks.
Graphic florals exploded against deep slate grey silks, and punctuated by the occasional true neon yellow garment.
The collection took a dark turn towards the end of the show, with the shibori prints making another appearance in a laser-cut iteration against cornflower blues. Black panels and piping with shimmery rainbow tones mimced the look of and oil puddle, freshly dripped from an engine.
The ubiquitous knit bodycon dress was not absent from this collection. This, and mesh knit sweaters seem to be trending this season, making appearances in Faster by Mark Fast, Rag & Bone, and Derek Lam.
Overall, I am in love with the laser cut pieces. However, this collection is a little too ethereal and muted for my taste. I prefer bold colors, but I would definitely wear some of these.
What do you think? Did MS. Taylor do her thing?

Jihan,
You have a way with words. You paint a beautiful narrative that is at once picturesque and intelligent.

I don’t know what happened to this line. 5 years ago it was HOT…now….. The collection looks like something sold @ Macy’s.

oh….I shop @ Macy’s. I mean that the line has become common. Not stellar as it was prior.
