BCBG Max Azria left its safe predilections in the past, offering a series of easy separates and dresses in cool yet bright coral, emerald green, blue, citron, and lemongrass for Spring 2012:

Silk chiffon, silk georgette, and silk crepe billowed down the runway on maxi dresses outfitted with pretty pleats, sheer details, and high slits.
Anchored by beaded sandals and metallic clutch, colorblocked garments mixed contrasting colors in geometric and tribal inspired designs.

My favorites: a 70′s inspired pleated maxi dress with sheer details and an asymmetric blue and green top worn with navy short pants:
I would definitely wear this collection.
Would you?

@ Claire; I’ve analysed New York Fashion Week since I’ve been immersed in the fashion industry & to be frank with you it has never amazed me. There’s nothing avant garde, designers are supposed to be original with their work, I feel like we’ve seen this look on the catwalks already, BCBG in particular. London, Paris, Milan does it better!

To be honest it didnt wow me but i do love the 70′s maxi dress looks the combination of the colours.

I love this entire collection!! Maybe because I’m a sucker for sheer, the 70′s, and maxi dresses. “Everything you have done, has already been done”, so who cares if it has already been seen.

@Doreen Faith Yeah, to me American designers tend to play it safe, with an exception to a few designers like Betsey Johnson or Vivienne Westwood. That’s the way it is though, you will never really see a McQueen like piece in New York Fashion week I think. In London, Paris, or Milan those designers usually do take risk and you will see Avant Garde pieces. I don’t know why that is, but it seems like that’s just the way it usually is.

I did like some of these dresses though in that collection!

Agreed. The fashion is not nearly as remarkable or breathtaking as I anticipate it to be. However, I do think that American designers speak to their “American” audience…meaning they present relaxed, yet polished, versatile looks.
