Twitter was ablaze this morning with news that celebrated makeup artist Sam Fine was named Creative Director of African-American cosmetics brand Fashion Fair:

In his new role, the industry veteran will advise on new products, enrich Fashion Fair’s color palette, and make in-store appearances. In Spring 2012, he will unveil his unique collection called Sam Fine for Fashion Fair.

Clarisa Wilson, President of Fashion Fair, said, “Sam Fine is a true artist who understands women of color and has built an illustrious career unparalleled in the industry. His experience in the fashion editorial world with global beauty brands and celebrities will translate wonderfully with Fashion Fair, and our consumers will reap its benefits. We’re thrilled to have him with us, and you’ll be able to track his progress at www.fashionfair.com.”
Congrats, Sam!

If he can make FF take all the mica and chemicals out of their products, then yes I will buy!
August 23, 2011 9:42 am
congrats to him :)

That is wonderful- I look forward to more hues that are made for women of color! Hopefully the products themselves will improve as well, bc so far I have only worn the lipsticks.

Ok, ok, ok….lol like I adore Sam Fine and congrats to him, but is this the moment where everyone acts as if the wear Fashion Fair? lol Come on..That stuff is 4 your great Aunt that whenever you hug her she gets that thick stuff on your clothes..

I am going to have to agree with Savage. I personally don’t believe that brand can be revived but much to success to Sam Fine.
August 23, 2011 11:02 am
I have never used that brand….and I say congrats to him….he heavily endorses other brands that work well for African Americans, like Iman Cosmetics, CoverGirl Queen Collection and also Black Opal. I think I will be sticking to what I know. It’s crazy though, because I have never heard him recommend anything from Fashion Fair to his subscribers and followers on twitter/fb.

Hopefully with Sam, FF can come out of the stone ages.

I buy and wear them all from, Fashion Fair to Chanel. I’ve never abandoned the brand because their cream to powder foundation is the perfect match for my richly hued skin and the colors of their lip sticks are beautiful.

FASHION FAIR…LMAO. I LOVE SAM’S WORK, BUT UNLESS HE CAN BRING FF OUT OF THE 80S..I WILL PASS.
August 23, 2011 12:13 pm
I use some of their stuff and I’m young and my mom still loves the brand’s products. Now with Sam on board I have full confidence they can whip up some great new products.

I’m sure Sam Fine will do for Fashion Fair what Tom Pecheux is doing for Estee Lauder as their Creative Director. EL has really revamped especially with the Pure Color collections. Both brands are commonly associated as being for the more mature crowd, but now Estee Lauder draws in a younger audience and I’m sure Sam will do the same for FF.
FF sent over some products for me to review on my site and while it wasn’t like “OMG–WOOOOW” it was a lot better than what I remembered from back in the day…lol.

I am interested to see what he has in store for Fashion Fair because I know of only few of women of color that still uses the makeup line. Sam Fine is great at what he does and has a great following so I think this is a great power move for him and his brand
August 23, 2011 1:30 pm
maybe he will modernize the brand because the only person i know that still wears fashion fair is my god-mother.
August 23, 2011 2:30 pm
Good! I hope he revamps FF.
August 23, 2011 3:30 pm
He will def turn this line from my mama’s staple to MY staple. Because right now-I can’t do all the red based foundations and lack of good matte shadows. They had to do better or they were going to die.
August 23, 2011 3:41 pm
My mom LOVES FF. I hope this turns to the company around laawwd knows its dated as ever!
August 23, 2011 6:27 pm
Seems fitting I always thought he was unofficial ambassador anyway…his clients’ makeup seems so thick and like a mask…thats the way I felt when I wore fashion fair powder foundation(I grew up in small town and that’s all we had for years)…
August 23, 2011 7:55 pm
Yes if Mr. Fine updates F.F I will most def be supporting.
August 23, 2011 11:53 pm
I will definitely be checking fashion fair out next spring!!! Hopefully as has been mentioned, Mr. Fine will bring his genius and update the brand, making it more appealing to a younger demographic! Can’t wait!
