• This weekend Grace Jones performed in Hyde Park, London, wearing little more than a headpiece, blazer, and fishnet pantyhose. Like wine, Grace Jones just gets better with age. (The Cut)
• Nicola Formichetti is pissed. In his V Magazine interview we mentioned a few days ago, he is quoted saying that he “doesn’t work with fat people.” Mr. Formichetti now insists he was terribly misquoted: “I know I should just leave it but…I really hate when writers just write whatever they want… ‘I dont work with fat people…’ why would someone say such a thing?!” , he said via Facebook. The fact of the matter is, Formichetti styled last year’s V magazine size issue, and has worked with Beth Ditto, who we know is certainly (and proudly) not skinny. (Fashionista)
• Unless your magazine is named Teen Beat, do not put Justin Bieber on your cover. Apparently, the February issue of Vanity Fair featuring the tween artist was its worst selling in 12 years. Damn Biebs! First the “Best New Artist” Grammy and now this? Looks like Bieber fever is breaking! (WWD)
• As if there was not enough reason for us to love Tom Ford, the designer gives us another in a recent interview with TimeOut Hong Kong. (Ready your heads for the SMH, everyone.) When asked if he thought “A friend who works at LVMH said of Liu Wen: ‘She looks Caucasian because of her face, her straight nose, her cheekbones…’ Do you think people regard these Chinese women as beautiful because of their perceived Western features?” Without missing a beat, Mr. Ford responded: “No. I think, and don’t take this the wrong way, all of your questions have a very odd racist slant, because you have grown up here. And don’t take that the wrong way; it’s not a negative thing at all. Honestly, growing up in America and Europe, I don’t think as racially as the questions you are asking.” Wow! How does one continue an interview after that response? Tom Ford: Keepin’ it 100, 100% of the time. (StyleCaster)
• In “more stuff you won’t be able to afford until sample sale season” news, Pour La Victoire is launching a line of handbags. They will range from $295 to $495. I hope these bags come with caviar and one weekend of free cocktails in NYC, because you can definitely cop a Marc Jacobs joint for less on GILT! (WWD)

Let’s be real, every “Edgy, GroundBreaking, Fashion Icon, Risk Taker” gets it all from the great Grace Jones..The all black issue of Italian Vogue, I swear was Steven Miesel’s dedication to that woman. Gaga, King B, Rihanna, Madonna, All Hail The Queen!!

Grace is awesome! Still fashion forward. One of the last of the trail-blazer Mohicans. A shame that soo many R&B chicks come and go….but Grace will always have sold out shows.

July 6, 2011 2:34 pm

Am I missing something in the Tom Ford interview? People in the US and Europe don’t think about things “racially,” including beauty standards? That just sounds like fashion execs who claim that there is no problem with racism in the industry to me.

Grace is and will always be the baddest. I can never forget her performance in Conan. This woman with her nontraditional style took on the world and succeeded. She is a living testament that the only thing that can stop you from achieving success is yourself.

Grace Jones is the ORIGINAL!!! (*coughs* Gaga stop trying to be her!)
July 6, 2011 9:01 pm
