The Fashion Bomb News Breakdown: Janelle Monae Talks Tuxedos in Glamour’s August 2011 issue, Carmelo Anthony in L’Uomo Vogue, and Maybelline Features Beauty Bloggers
By The Fashion Bomb Staff

• The adorable Janelle Monae spoke to Glamour about why she never changes out of those darn tuxedos: “I’m just really attracted to a very tailored, classic look that commands attention. The tuxedo, especially on women, does that I think because of the stark black and white. It’s not a trendy thing. It’s timeless. It’s transcendent. The kind of thing you can give to your grandchildren.” Which begs the questions: will we see Janelle Monae sans tuxedo before she has grandchildren? Does she sleep in those tuxedos à la Lady Gaga?  (Oh No They Didn’t)

• Former owner of the British luxury department store Harrod’s, Mohamed Al Fayed has purchased designer discount e-store Cocosa. While it is a promising venture for Mr. Al Fayed, this also means he just has more access free designer duds than we do. Funny how that works. (Vogue UK)

Carmelo Anthony attempts his best “blue steel” in the July/August L’Uomo Vogue. I’m loving the “preacher hands” in the second pic. (Necole Bitchie)

• Wondering who will replace John Galliano at Dior? Keep wondering. The house says it is in no rush to find a successor, and that Bill Gaytten, director of Galliano’s namesake will oversee Dior collections for now. (Luxuo)

• Following in the footsteps of Zara, Maybelline has added a street style feature to its website: NYC365. Andrea from The Glamazons has already been featured, along with other editors and bloggers. We’ll see if they continue in this pattern of featuring fashion journalists and neo-journalists only. In which case, you plebes have no chance! The Fashion Bomb contributors are next! (Beauty High)

• Calling all fashion activists! If you were looking for something to boycott, take a cue from from Nautica and Liz Claiborne, and avoid Uzbekistani cotton, picked by child laborers! In addition to being forced into labor, the children are also exposed to harmful pesticides. Terrible. (Racked)

  1. Shalanda says:

I am excited about the Street Style portion added to the Maybelline website. Nothing beats a great designer runway show, but I always feel so much more inspired when I can see what other people are wearing around the world.

  2. Crystal says:

ok janelle, you can be classic and timeless without wearing the same thing everyday, with the same hair and the same make up. but if she is happy, i guess that’s all that matters. mello is getting his grown man on right there!

  3. Brittany says:

Janelle Monae does not impress me at all.

  4. Alexis says:

Janelle Monae style was cute at first, now it’s boring….. She needs to switch it up!! Where you can find me—-> @Alexislovesme
