In a departure from the typical, Sarah Burton creates a resort collection for Alexander McQueen taking the vacationing woman on more of a diplomatic state tour than an island getaway.
Sticking to tried and true markers of the McQueen aesthetic, Burton outfits our woman in structured military jackets with strong but feminine structured tails. The narrative thread in this collection lies in the intricate embellishments adorning everything from jackets to floor sweeping state dinner- worthy gowns.
Always on trend, Burton satisfies our summer obsessions with animal prints and tribal patterns on the cowrie-fringed pockets of smart suit jackets.
What I love about this collection:i t doesn’t have the usual epic, in-your-face looks the house is famous for. Instead there is a simplicity heightened by gloriously gilded details.

Next to Donatell Versace, Sarah Burton is a fashion genius. I love when designers MAKE me study the lines, fabric and colors.

Where is the woman “resorting” to, the Baltic and Black Sea? This is a waste of a beautiful Fall collection. Resort is a niche item, one that Mr. McQueen didn’t often indulge in. When I see the headline “resort” I want something that L’Wren Scott might jet off to Mustique wearing. And even if this is for more state dinner travel than yachting, I can’t see Carla Bruni-Sarkozy or Michelle Obama wearing such heavy embroidery while visiting hot ass India in August or something.
