A new advertisement for Cadbury Chocolate’s Bliss bars reads, ” Move over Naomi, there’s a new diva in town.” Naomi Campbell took offense, calling the advertisement racist and saying, “It’s upsetting to be described as chocolate, not just for me, but for all black women and black people.”
She told the Independent newspaper, “I’m deeply upset by this racist advert. Do these people think they can insult black people and we just take it? This is the 21st century, not the 1950s. Shame on Cadbury.”
Cadbury responded by pulling the ad, and released a statement saying, “Cadbury takes its responsibility very seriously indeed and we would never produce any marketing activity we felt might cause offence to any section of society.”

Still, Naomi is considering legal action and motivated British Civil Rights Group Operation Black Vote to boycott Cadbury products.
Diva Indeed. Does Naomi have cause to complain?

Need a fun outfit option for formal summer events? Try a white tuxedo.

Sure tuxedos have been around since men first donned them in 1860′s, and women have been rocking with them since Yves Saint Laurent proposed Le Smoking in 1966. But just as trends come and go, it seems tuxedos are experiencing a resurgence in spring ready white instead of traditional black.

Rock a full on tuxedo (replete with a bowtie à la Eva Marcille) or simply slip on a white tuxedo jacket like June Ambrose or Janelle Monae.

Will you be trying this trend?
If so, get the look here:
Hey!
So I’m headed back to New York today (woo hoo!), but wanted to give you guys the scoop on a few designers I spied during Style Week Jamaica 2011. The line up for this year’s showcase included familiar names like LaQuan Smith, Sammy B, and Mataano, along with new names like Ashley Martin, Frenchester Christie, Lisa McIntosh, Simone Gordon of T&T Fashions, and Andre Shirley.
Check out a few highlights.
Allan Virgo:
By day, Jamaican born Allan Virgo designs outerwear for Michael Kors. By night, the 26-year-old FIT graduate fashions his own line of beautifully colored maxi dresses, one shoulder frocks, and asymmetrical skirts, characterized by a signature patchwork style melding different patterns and fabrics.

Though some pieces in the collection fell away from the brand’s aesthetic with plastic cut outs placed on A-line skirts, Virgo will certainly triumph by sticking to more feminine elements: crop tops, skirts, and floor grazing yet easy frocks.
HOD:

Gregory Williams of HOD called his adventurous collection, “Ninja Glam.” Models in pin cushion bras (replete with pins) sauntered down the runway in leggings, jumpsuits, and tops with dramatic elements like generous hoods and parachute like pockets.

I could see Nicki Minaj on stage twirling in any of these bold separates. Barbz approved.
Nina:

Nina’s forte is crochet. For the presentation designer Karlene Levy of the brand offered monokinis, bikinis, mini and maxi dresses in alluring knit.

The pieces seemed perfect for a relaxed vacation in a tropical paradise.
Kevin O’Brian:

Paris based Kevin O’Brian brought a bit of couture sensibility to the proceedings with dramatic face masks played up by fall away gowns comprised of lace, light reflecting material, and chiffon.

T & T:

One shoulder dresses shared the runway with alluring maxi frocks for Simone Gordon of T&T‘s segment. Out of all the designers who presented that night, these were definitely the closest to red carpet worthy.

And of course we can’t forget our very own New York designers.
Mataano presented a 70′s themed safari replete with rompers, paisley pieces, and straw hats:

And LaQuan Smith lit up the venue and closed the show with his electrically sweet ‘Hard Candy’ collection:

Fashion Bomb reader binks left a comment in our Weekend Beauty Hot! or Hmm… post saying, “I think everybody looks decent enough. But can we get info on the makeup look of Alicia Keys in the W magazine spread of the post below? Her makeup was super cute in the first picture! Pretty please!”
Sure!
The thing though to keep in my with Alicia’s look is the eyes seem to have a gloss to them (read: photoshoot makeup). Once you step off the set, this type of finish won’t stay put long. Chances are (depending on how long they were shooting for) the makeup artist on set was on stand-by for touch-ups to keep the look glossy or extra editing was done post-shoot.
To get an off-set version of this look (we’re not going to bring the shadow up as far as Alicia’s is here as most people can’t pull that look off), after applying an eyeshadow base, grab a shimmery black-gold shadow (try NARS Night Clubbing Eyeshadow) and apply it on the lid and into the crease. Then using a flat crease brush like MAC #252, apply a matte dark brown shadow like MAC Embark Eyeshadow into the crease (or where the crease would be if you have a flatter eye shape) using a semi-circle motion. Apply a matte shadow or creme concealer about 2-3 shades lighter than your skin tone into the brow bone area. Blend. Line the eyes with a black waterproof pencil like Covergirl Liquiline Blast in Blackfire and add 2-3 coats of mascara.

If you want to give the glossy look a go even though it won’t last long, apply a dab of glycerin or clear lip gloss on top of the eyeshadow with a gentle dabbing motion.
For the lips try a berry red lipstick with a creamy shine finish like Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture in #8 Belle de Rose. And for the cheeks, try a peach blush like Illamasqua Powder Blusher in Excite.
To really take this look to the next level, some contouring is in order. Check out this post for more tips.
