H&M Your Art Here: Launching Today!

    by Claire

    Hey Hey!
So I’m collaborating with H&M on a really exciting project for young artists and designers called ‘Your Art Here.’

Erykah Badu by artist Andre Woolery

Your Art Here is an all styles visual arts contest giving aspiring artists and designers the opportunity to gain exposure by exhibiting their work in the window of the H&M store located at 42nd Street and 5th Avenue in New York City and also be a part of an exclusive T-shirt collection, sold in H&M stores all over the US.

Especially exciting this year is the fashion and arts savvy jury, which I am a part of (woot woot)! See who else is on the jury here.

Together we’re helping aspiring artists kick-start their arts and design career – and you can help too! Vote for your favorite art pieces or enter your own art to win!

The 25 pieces with the most votes will be showcased to H&M’s esteemed panel of judges who will use their expertise to choose the top 5. The 5 winning art pieces will be installed in the H&M store window on 42nd St and 5th Ave where it will be on display for the millions of pedestrians passing by each day. The winning artwork will also be a part of an exclusive T-shirt collection, sold in H&M stores all over the US. Join Your Art Here and you just might see your creativity come to life on a garment.

New for 2011’s contest is the opportunity for five grand prizes, all of which will include:

    - A $500 H&M gift card
    - A $2,000 stipend to support an up-and-coming art career
    - Being a part of an exclusive t-shirt collection featuring the winning artworks!
    - Installment of their piece in New York’s H&M store window on 42nd Street and 5th Ave

Want to know more? Check out our inspirational video for “Your Art Here 2011” here.

The winners will be selected on May 25th. Be creative, get noticed.

Get the Look: Cassie’s Smoky Eye Makeup

    by Danielle

Fashion Bomb reader Bianca wrote in asking, “I am a 18 year old girly girl and I have been dying to know how to get Cassie‘s look in this pic. I am almost certain she has on Rice Paper from MAC and a black kohl eyeliner of course, with possibly Covergirl’s Delish 225 on her lips. Please tell me anything else that I may have missed or if I am wrong“.

    Hey Bianca!

I’m going to need to borrow those 18 year old eyes of yours because my 29 year old ones were straining to see Cassie’s eye makeup in this pic…lol. It’s hard to tell exactly what makeup was used on celebrities (or anyone) because so many brands have similar looking makeup products, but I can give you a list of similar products you can use for this look.

The makeup was done by celebrity artist Mylah Morales for Cassie’s February appearance in Wiz Khalifa‘s “Roll Up” video. Fellow beauty blogger Blaq Vixen Beauty reports that the lipstick is actually CoverGirl Lip Perfection Lipstick in Enchantress as per her PR contact at CoverGirl.

As for the eyes, from what I can see it looks like a smoky eye gradation with a brow highlight.

Image from makeup artist Mylah Morales' Tumblr

Start with a manicured brow (see tips here). Apply an eyeshadow base like MAC Paint Pot to keep shadow in place for hours. For the first layer start with a plum brown eyeshadow like MAC Folie Eyeshadow and apply it on the lid and into the crease with a blending brush like MAC #224. Then for the second layer, pack on a black eyeshadow like MAC Carbon onto the lid with a flat brush MAC #252. Blend it with a brush like MAC #224 into just about the crease making sure there is a clear difference between it and the lighter crease shade. Apply a matte eyeshadow 1-2 shades lighter than your skin tone on your brow bone (or use a shimmery one like MAC Rice Paper Eyeshadow). Line the eyes with a waterproof pencil like Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Pencil in Zero, then using a liner brush like MAC #266, line directly underneath the lower lash line with the plum brown shadow and gently smudge. Apply 2-3 coats of mascara.

    More M·A·C…
    ShopStyle

Her face appears contoured which you can do with any matte makeup (eyeshadow, blush, bronzer, etc.) that’s about 2-3 shades darker than your skintone applied to the hollows of your cheeks and the jaw line (get more contouring tips here). Then apply a peach blush (MAC Peaches for lighter skin tones, NARS Gilda for tan or caramel skin tones, or Illamasqua Excite for darker skin tones). Then use a highlighter on the tops of the cheek bones (see this post for tips on ones to use for your skin tone). Be sure to blend so there’s no obvious makeup lines.

You can of course substitute any of the products mentioned above with similar ones from other brands and you’ve got yourself a Cassie-esque makeup look!

Fashion Discussion: Is it Ok for a Friend to Copy Your Style?

    by Claire

Friends influence friends, even when it comes to fashion.
I’m sure we’ve all had a bestie who peeped your new sweater and needed it in another color. Or perhaps you spied a pair of your buddy’s shoes and had to have a pair of your own.

Personal style typically differs so radically, it doesn’t happen as often as it could.
But when you see your friend twirling in what you thought was ‘your’ piece, do you get upset? Or let it slide?

Weekend Hot! or Hmm…: Jennifer Hudson, Kanye West, Zoe Kravitz, & more!

    by Claire

Happy Easter everyone!  Vuitton here with a recap of a few celebs spotted on the town during Easter weekend.  I, for one, can only live vicariously through them since I’m bogged down with studying for this exam I have.  But what a way to take a study break.  A handful of stars were snapped across the globe, either dressed to kill, or looking like fashion roadkill.  Let’s take a look at who sizzled and who fizzled this week.
Zoe Saldana was spied giving face at the 54th Annual San Francisco International Film Festival:

Love the attitude, not so sure about this Fall 2011 Salvatore Ferragamo dress. The dramatic sweetheart neckline gets a pass, but the slight slit on the side made the choice look a little dated. Classic black pumps were the perfect complement, however, to the frock’s dramatic elements.

Another Zoe made an appearance at this weekend’s Tribeca Film Festival….

Oh Zoe…cue Tyra voice, “We were rooting for you!!!” The usually flawless starlet underwhelmed with her fly away hairstyle, asymmetrical black dress, and battered boots. Loving the jacket, but we’ve seen better from Zoe, hmm….
Beyonce has clearly been enjoying her time in Paris…

Dressed in this polka-dot Marc Jacobs fall 2011 dress, the mogul looked nothing short of stunning.  She oozed classic elegance.  Christian Louboutin peep-toe pumps and a Balmain crocodile purse completed her look.  Hot!

Kanye West was also spied in Paris on his way to meet up with Jay-Z…

Looking fly as ever in this Balmain Silver Sleeve Teddy Jacket, black jeans, and Air Yeezy 2 sneakers…all of which must somehow find their way in my closet before the end of the week.  Yeezy rarely disappoints sartorially, and his look here was a testament. (Random: That girl in the pink shirt loves her some ‘Ye!)

    Jennifer Hudson
    was in Londontown this weekend…

Looking as svelte as ever in this curve hugging black pencil dress and very haute sandals, Jennifer looked piping hot.  Extra points for the hair and makeup.

Christina Milian was out and about this weekend…

….her simple one shoulder black jumpsuit and strappy sandals were simply divine. Her dangling earrings, wide belt, and chains strap bag added nice accents without taking away from her overall chic. Hot!

Jessica Alba celebrated with NY Times Bestseller Maria Menounos at a Martini Prosecco event in LA…

….loving her patterned L.A.M.B silk chiffon maxi dress and the hard edge her leather vest added to the whole look. It’s the perfect cute comfortable ensemble for a day party in California.

Lastly, Tika Sumpter promoted The Body Shop’s Three-Minute Shower Challenge in NYC:

Hmm, not too jazzed with the boxy silhouette of her jumpsuit, but her Giuseppe Zanotti heels were certainly a nice touch.

    That does it!

Who rocked and socked it for you?

Cover Double Take: Naomi Campbell on Vogue Japan and Beyonce on L’Officiel in Gucci Spring/Summer 2011

    by Claire

Naomi Campbell covers the June 2011 issue of Vogue Japan wearing the same Gucci dress Beyonce wore on the March 2011 issue of L’Officiel:

The African inspired plumed and beaded frock is from the brand’s highly lauded Spring/Summer 2011 collection:

Splurge: Lala Vazquez-Anthony’s Celtics vs. Knicks Nicholas Kirkwood Lace-Up Lace Platform Sandals

    by Claire

Lala’s shoe game is sick, can we agree on that?
The basketball wife was spied this weekend taking in the Knicks vs. Celtics game in a hot as fire $1,195 pair of Nicholas Kirkwood Lace-Up Lace Platform Sandals:

The metallic floral lace sandals feature latticework suede and shoestring laces. She paired the stunners with cool and casual cuffed boyfriend jeans, a Pleasure Doing Business Heart Print bustier, and blazer.

    Hot, right?
Get the shoes at Bergdorf Goodman here or get a similar look with these $135 sexy leather and mesh lace-up platform Kaleb sandals from Nine West:
