As we reported here, designer Rachel Roy and basketball player Amare Stoudemire have been rumored to be collaborating on a line for a while.
Today they confirmed the rumor to Women’s Wear Daily , telling them what we can expect from their line :

Roy says, “I am channeling a girl that goes to sporting events…She goes to basketball events or maybe football events. She needs something that is modern, something that represents her in a way that doesn’t look like it just came out of a sporting goods shop…I think I would like to teach girls that you don’t necessarily have to wear high heels to watch sports, but you can be casually chic.” Hmm, I wonder who she could be referring to…

About the collaboration, Amare added, “I pretty much let her drive the car and I am just being the maintenance man. Basketball is a natural thing for me, and I have been playing basketball as long as I can remember, but designing is new to me. I never had to pick out sketches.”

Should be interesting. The collection will be available in select Macy’s, with prices ranging from $45-$250.
Does it sound like something you would rock?

I am so excited about this I can’t even tell you. I’m a big sports and fashion fan. I’ve played sports all of my life and have an eye for great fashion. What better combination for a girl like me that frequents sporting events?!?! I’m excited! (wait I said that already but you get my drift!)

Hell No… Im not buying this.. and whats good with that Love and Basketball Logo? On the other hand… I am a woman who is not into sports so this is not targeted towards me.

I LOVE sports, football in particular. I’m curious to see what they think I should be wearing LOL
April 19, 2011 2:44 pm
Not at all. I like my Jerseys, Team Graphic Tees & HEELS! =)

I am excited also. I am a HUGE sports fan, and love fashion as well. And I too believe that you dont have to look like you are about to go to the club when you are going to watch a game. I understand wanting to look nice, but there is a time and a place for everything, lol.
Dear Claire: PLEASE post some pieces/looks when they become available (I already know you will ;)
p.s. This site is AMAZING…you (as well as the other contributors) keep up the good work!

Does Rachel Roy really sketch or does she really just puts her name on all of this??
April 19, 2011 4:09 pm
i’d have to see it first, but anything would be better then wearing full on club gear to a b-ball game (angela simmons).
April 19, 2011 4:28 pm
This should be interesting…I’m not sold yet. Now all the celebs will have something to wear to the games without ppl complaining that they’re overdressed.
April 19, 2011 4:40 pm
i think this is an interesting point of view. i never know what to wear to a sporting event. you want to be in between lezzy and groupie.

This is a market that has been untouched. Alyssa Milano (from Who’s the Boss) had a line that was similar to this, but it never got much press. Looking forward to this line…

Interesting to see what the line is going to offer. Great concept. Amare is probably annoyed at all the celebs and groupies wearing looking like overdressed clowns @ games..

Beyond pumped. This is sooo me, Fashion + Sports! I’m really interested to see what the line will look like. Already a fan of Rachel’s work! Yay! <3

Curious to see what they come up with.. Won’t be buying a logo tee, I know that! LOL

Can Rachel smile get any wider?

It’s so obvious Anna Wintour is the silent hand behind this curious collaboration.

I don’t get it. Just wear sum jeans and a oversized top w/flat boots. I really don’t get it…smh
April 20, 2011 12:58 pm
I think it’s a cute idea and am curious to see the line. Maybe it will stop these people from going to games in Louboutins which is beyond ridiculous to me.

I am anxious to see actual pieces not just sketches. I love Rachel Roy’s designs so Im excited to see how this will turn out; especially that trench look.
Maybe these females that have suddenly become sideline accessories will learn to dress for the games and realize its not the same attire as what you’d wear to a club.

Please God dont let her bring out that jersey that ties on the side. That was so 10 years ago!!
