Hey!
So if you follow me on Twitter, you’d know I attended a press event introducing Casio’s new TRYX camera with a concert by Nicki Minaj and the Roots. Gadget heads, members of the press, and fans all gathered at Best Buy Theater to try out the new swiveling lens camera and of course hear a few of their favorite artists rip the mic.
There was a bit of a delay in between the press conference and concert, so I decided to take a few pictures of Nicki Minaj fans in the building.
From wigs to bubble gum pink lipstick, they had it all.

I first stopped Niki, a 32-year-old New Jersey mom who was Minaj’d down to her crystal peppered Barbie necklace (a gift from her 15-year-old daughter). She said she liked Nicki because of her style and eccentricity. Her favorite Minaj song is “Save Me,” because, she said, “It helped me through a bad situation in my life.”

Alecia, also 32, said, “I like her style. She has more than one person inside of her, which makes you wonder who she really is. I adore her.” Her favorite Nicki Minaj song is “Right Thru Me,” because “Sometimes you have to really look deep within someone to see who they really are.”

22-year-old Chloe said she loved Nicki’s creativity. Regarding all the beef with Lil Kim, she said, “Every generation has their it girl, and Nicki is ours.”
Nedra, a 22-year-old Bostonian, said, “I can relate to Nicki’s animated personality. She is my alter ego.” Her favorite song, lyrically, is “Roman’s Revenge.”
Lastly, I snapped Heidyz and Joslyn. The ladies wouldn’t disclose their ages, but said they liked Nicki’s style and makeup. They were also fans of the song, “Roman’s Revenge.”
After chatting with the Nicki devotees (turns out most were entered in a look-a-like contest), I snapped a few other fashionable folks in the room.

I loved Franz’s Shades of Grey Jacket, Cheap Monday Jeans, Jeremy Scott for Adidas sneakers, and funky hat by Stamped LA. He owns a clothing line called www.gentlemenknow.com.

And had to stop these friends who were dripping in gold chains. Also loved homie on the right’s high top fade accented by a red stripe!
After snapping Real Style, I went into the concert hall, and stood front and center for the Roots (who I adore by the way):
Then migrated upstairs for Nicki’s performance:
She rocked the stage in funky tights and a Jeremy Scott for Adidas buttons jacket. Of being chosen to perform for Casio, she said, “I’ma tell you why this is so important. I’m a black girl from Southside Jamaica, Queens, and that is why I tell you Barbz, don’t give up.” Love it.
While upstairs I also ran into Somaya of Love and Hip-Hop:
She’s really sweet and gorgeous in person.
It was a fun night:
What do you think of Real Style at the Casio Tryx out event with Nicki Minaj and the Roots?

April 8, 2011 11:23 am

This ratchet fanbase is why I refuse to take Nicki Minaj seriously. For real?! This is what your music inspires?!
April 8, 2011 11:30 am
Wow. I’m so glad I do not identify with any of this tomfoolery! However I do love the Roots crew. One of Philly’s finest!
April 8, 2011 11:43 am
Umm…This nicki fanbase its very interesting lol…number 2 needs to win if it was a contest lol
April 8, 2011 11:57 am
Heidyz and Joslyn…i know their ages…”too damn old for this foolishness!” ugh why do black women (i am black) idolized someone who looks like a clown? a dumb stereotype! As a rapper she’s wack! her verses lack depth, metaphors, wit, and don’t give you anything to think about! follery, hood-ratchetness, hot ass messes and all of the above!! BOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
April 8, 2011 11:58 am

April 8, 2011 12:53 pm

April 8, 2011 1:04 pm
Interesting fan base..lol #thatsall
I like Nicki, she is a character Gaga of Rap and IMO she has lyrical skill, she will eat 90% of these horrible male rappers out there alive.
April 8, 2011 1:04 pm
Tragic. Just..tragic
April 8, 2011 1:07 pm
Love Nicki and I’m glad you had a ball at the concert but I have never seen anyone go to a Beyonce Concert with Leggings and a sequins body suit before so I don’t condone the foolishness that Nicki’s fans are wearing.
April 8, 2011 1:14 pm
WHEREEEEEE are those leggings from where Nicki is wearing the Jeremy Scott jacket? I want them !
April 8, 2011 1:24 pm

April 8, 2011 1:37 pm

April 8, 2011 1:52 pm
I am crying and laughing at this ratchedness at the same time. I can see teenage girls liking Nicki Minaj, but grown women and mothers idolizing her is an epic fail imo…lol

April 8, 2011 2:02 pm
this is definitely disturbing @nicki fans
April 8, 2011 2:15 pm
I dont imagine myself 32 & dressing like I was hopping out of a motel in honey groove!
Am a huge Nicki fan, I respect her as an artist, but this is really unproductively too much!
April 8, 2011 2:38 pm
I can’t believe 32-year olds are going to Nicki Minaj concerts, let alone in costume as her. Is it Halloween? The second girl really does look like her though. On another note, how are Nicki Minaj and The Roots on the same promotion?
April 8, 2011 2:48 pm
OMG! These women look ridiculous! Come on ladies we need to do better.
April 8, 2011 3:23 pm
No…just No…

April 8, 2011 6:49 pm
sad why did you even post this sickness!!!
April 8, 2011 7:06 pm
Well this blog is about urban fashion… and I kinda like that they post the good, the bad and the ugly. I think most of us can agree this post is 2 of the three. All the outfits are tacky but REALLY im sure these women didnt dress like that thinking “Damn! I look just like Nicki” .. MOST of them probably did it for fun and not to be taken seriously… kinda like halloween. lol
April 8, 2011 7:12 pm
Don’t like the “fashions” BUT that Franz guy is cute.
April 8, 2011 8:30 pm
Props to these ladies for being so bold! I am a huge Nicki fan but I don’t see these looks happening for me, ever, so good on these stans for being brave.
Franz is stylish as hell! Love his whole look.
April 8, 2011 9:15 pm
wow this event totally brought the trashy, tacky, and tasteless out. don’t people have any shame? especially the grown women who should know better, like the one who is taking fashion cues from her 15 year old daughter?
April 8, 2011 10:20 pm
Every last one of them looks dumb as Fu*k. Including Nikki Minaj.
April 8, 2011 10:22 pm
Wow, I’m painfully embarrassed for these grown women and their lack of shame.
April 9, 2011 12:52 am

April 10, 2011 10:17 am
Bwahahaha. They look dumb as hell. I like a couple of Nicki Minaj songs. (Shit even the Disney kids (Selena, Miley, Taylor) are loving her) and I’m not going to generalize but the 32 year old woman looks a damn fool.
April 10, 2011 5:48 pm

April 11, 2011 9:29 am

[...] Vuitton here, throat infection free and ready to tackle the week ahead. But before I get ahead of myself, let’s take it back to the weekend where celebs were spotted all over the nation at performances, events and the like. Some came out dressed to kill, while others had us doing double takes, and not in the best way. Let’s take a look to see who rocked it this week, and who should have stayed under a rock. First up is Nicki Minaj, who performed at the Casio New Tryx launch Claire attended… [...]

April 19, 2011 3:09 pm
Well I know Heidy Z. and Josyln and they weren’t part of the whole Nicki Minaj contest look alike..They were with Casio and they were there actually working. Yeah their outfits were cheesey but what do you expect if that is what was given to them to were from the company…
May 1, 2011 5:25 pm
How can a 10 year old look like her for school.
August 14, 2011 5:51 pm
See this is self esteem issues at its best! These women on here are too damn grown to be looking like Troll Dolls. Never mind Nicki she just making her money but these ladies need Fashion Police Quick! In that song Did It On Em she talks about women not being well put together well her fans are looking a hot greasy ass mess!
August 14, 2011 5:57 pm
They couldn’t make these outfits size appropriate. These women all look old and over weight to be wearing those damn leggings. Hit the gym before the concert ladies!
