Warmer weather will be here soon and with it hair color season. Before you pick up that dye, check out this quick Q&A I had with singer and star of the new reality show “Love & Hip-Hop” Olivia‘s hairstylist, Gabrielle Corney.
1. Who’s a candidate for hair color? Who isn’t?
A: Most can get hair color proocessing whether permanent, demi permanent semi permanent or temporary rinses. Individuals with paraphenylenediamine (PPD) or hair dye allergies are not candidates for hair color processing. It’s best to have a consultation with your colorist to determine the health of your hair and which process will work best.
2. What hair color trends will we be seeing this spring/summer?
A: Lighter colors are always trending for spring/summer. Vibrant reds, beautiful blondes, rich browns and believe it or not black looks AMAZING under the sun’s natural light.
3. What products can be used to keep color vibrant?
A: There are many color preserve products on the market but my personal favorite is Dumb Blonde from Bed Head.
4. Without giving away Olivia’s hair color secrets what would a color like hers entail?
A: Olivia has several different color processes done but the secret to her beautiful color are her regular deep conditioning treatments. They not only keep her hair healthy but infuse the natural and show the true beauty of her blonde and brown hues.
Great tips from Gabrielle!
If you’re looking to get a similar look as Olivia’s color, I beg you to see a professional. And by professional I mean someone who has been proven to work with color and who understands how to keep the hair healthy (you just don’t get that with some “neighborhood” salons). This is not a job I’d advise you to try at home because of all the processing involved. If you want the look without the color commitment, you can also try a weave.
If you can travel to the NYC area to get your hair done by a professional, you can email Gabrielle firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. She did my last two weaves (check it out here andhere) so I highly recommend her.
Will you be coloring your hair this summer? Which colors are you looking forward to trying?
