Soothing bird sounds dominated the ballroom of Claridge’s for Mulberry’s woodland inspired Fall 2011 fashion show. Finches perched on tree limbs, faux squirrels peeked out from behind ivy leaves, and real dogs sat front row with Mulberry bags hanging from leather leashes.
Roald Dahl’s ‘Fantastic Mr. Fox,’ was the inspiration for Mulberry’s newest collection, and bustling hedgerows, wonderful woodlands, and English wildlife set the stage for sumptuous, textural fabrics like luxurious sheepskin, silk lurex, and soft leather. With an earthy palette of moss green, fox brown, and red onion, the collection featured long gathered v-neck frocks, trench coats, and full pleated shirt dresses decorated with bird motifs.
Not to be overlooked were the brand’s now iconic satchels in butter soft quilted leather in contemporary colors like pink and Kelly green, accented by fox face rivets and stud closures.

Show Review: Mulberry Fall 2011
Weekend Beauty Hot! or Hmm…: Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Teyana Taylor, and More!
Happy Monday, Bombshells! Hope you all enjoyed your weekend! I spent mine still recovering from New York Fashion Week (how is Claire doing London, Milan, and Paris??? I need to take a nap after merely typing all of that out) and went to brunch with my fellow NYC bloggers.
It was also All Star Weekend and while a few years ago I was Miss Basketball, these days I’m just waaaay out of the loop. I don’t even know who played in the game or who won the Slam Dunk Contest *smh*.
But I do know it was a big weekend for celebs to be out and about so let’s take a look at the hair and makeup…
I have total Bonita Bettrel (Kim Wayans on “In Living Color”) moments when it comes to Nicki Minaj. “Don’t nobody better say nothing bad about Nicki“. But I would love to see other color combos on her gorgeous face than this teal glitter liner and MAC Pink Nouveau lip. Skin is flawless though.
Rihanna was out pubbing her new Reb’l Fleur perfume at a Macy’s in California. I actually bought it and it smells good (see my review here). I love her minimal makeup (looks like she’s wearing something similar to the new MAC Viva Glam Gaga 2 Lipglass on her lips), but I love her hair when she has edgier cuts. Something about the softness of this style with the hardness of the red throws it off.
And back to All Star Weekend festivities…
Teyanna Taylor sported her signature head of cute coils. Her makeup looks perfect—as if her makeup artist also doubles as a geometry instructor. I would have loved more of a pinkish color on her lips, but still a hot look.
I love Trina‘s makeup and the style of her hair, but feel “The Baddest Chick” could have used more volume at the crown to take this look to the next level. Her skin looks amazing.
Nicole Ari Parker posed for a pic with her hubby Boris Kudjoe. I adore this short cut on her that she’s been rocking lately and her coral lip is such a delight to look at—makes you really believe spring is coming despite this mean weather in parts of the world like NYC…lol.
Not to be corny, but Lynn Whitfield is like a fine wine—she gets better with age. Simple makeup and great skin is about all a woman needs. HOT!
Mashonda looks really pretty and relaxed here. Like she knows something really funny and isn’t telling. Whatever it is it makes her look gorgeous! HOT!
La La Vazquez was of course out for All Star Weekend festivities. I like her hair and her makeup looks pretty, but the brows are doing something weird in the center. Not sure if it’s a shadow or if she was going for a Bert (of Bert & Ernie fame) look.
Both Gabrielle Union and Savannah James look picture perfect as they pose during an All Star Weekend event. Both ladies came to serve skin, hair, and smiles. HOT!
Welp. If you were trying to figure out why you couldn’t snag the Nicki Minaj MAC Pink Friday Lipstick, it’s apparently because Eva Marcille got ‘em. Between the too-thin brows, too-light hair, and chalky-pink lipstick, I’ve been rendered speechless—somewhat.
Though singer Corrine Bailey Rae really rocks the no-makeup look, I do wish she would have worn a little lipstick or gloss to even out the color in her lips. Still a pretty look though.
*sings* Finally, it has happened to me, right in front of my face–oh sorry. Don’t front like you didn’t rock with CeCe Peniston back in the day! I bet if I put on some of her music and just danced around a bit, I’d lose like 20 pounds of water weight. Anyway, my love for Cece will not allow me to sit idly by and not mention that her foundation/skin looks a bit wonky. What’s going on there?
And although this pic was not from this weekend and was actually taken on the last day of New York Fashion Week, I figured you guys needed a Kerry Washington fix (ok, I needed one) so here it is. The actress looked gorgeous with her nude makeup and shiny wavy hair. HOT!

As we await the sun to come out and warm up the beaches so that we may be free to wear our many bikinis, we tend to stay in hibernation at home. Do you ever have that itch to shop, but it’s just too icky outside to venture to the closest mall? Turn to online shopping! I don’t know about you, but there’s something about opening the door to the UPS man with a package in his hands. And then taking about 10 minutes to open the darn box/bag since it’s sealed up and nearly human-proof. But alas, the packaging peanuts spring free and there’s the item you forgot you ordered a week ago! Hehe, it’s like a little present to yourself. That’s what I love about shopping online. This past week, I was looking for jewelry to wear for an upcoming party. I scoured the mall and just could not find a thing. When I went back home, I just went online by habit. I usually end up at Urban1972 or Net-a-Porter for apparel. For jewelry however, I always end up at ShopNBC.
They often have deals and ValuePay so I can pay off my purchases like a credit card. I’m looking for gold necklaces and rings so please help me decide on which to get! These are a few pieces that I found in the gold jewelry from ShopNBC. My dress is a strapless LBD. Let me know what you decide!

So one of the first shows I attended during London Fashion Week was Sass & Bide.
I’ll be honest, a lot of the designers I’ve been commissioned to write about for Vogue.it are ones I’m not particularly familiar with. I’ve seen Rihanna and Beyonce wear a few Sass & Bide pieces, so I felt pretty comfortable. Still, nothing could have prepared me for the onslaught of color and fun they served up for Fall 2011.
While most designers have been sticking to safe and predictable black and gray for fall/winter 2011, Sass & Bide said bullocks to the rules with a scintillating, electrically beautiful collection that popped with vivid magenta, red, tangerine, and fluorescent melon.
Luxurious suede weaves in toffee acted as a backdrop for neon green arm bands and fuchsia felted booties; orange sickle striped tops and draped maxi skirts were topped off with indented cone shaped hats; a tri-color sequin dipped ensemble artfully mixed pale pink with blue and orange dream.
The collection also played with prints like silk taffeta ikat and plaid, which balanced out the more vibrant hues with an earthy palette of mustard, plum, and terracotta.
Drawing from a myriad of cultures and traditions, the assortment both sizzled and popped.

When did how someone else wears their hair become such a topic of debate these days? Actually, I guess it’s always been a hot topic. I remember back in the days the “face-off” was short hair vs. long. Or if I were to crack open my “School Daze” DVD, I’d remember the old school natural vs. relaxed debate.
But nowadays it just feels like we’re so far divided. Especially since the internet and social media has brought us together from all corners of the world. It seems like a powerful thing to be able to chat about haircare tips with women in New York, Atlanta, London, Los Angeles, Paris, Port of Spain, Lagos, Cape Town, etc. That is until the way you wear your hair is revealed. You better join a team. #naturalhair #relaxedhair and may the force be with you if you wear a weave.
Honestly, it’s all really silly. Variety makes life interesting and as an avid people watcher, I enjoy seeing different hairstyles on Black women.

So after I got over the giddiness of meeting one of London’s most promising talents, Henry Holland, I rested up in preparation for my first show of today, Jena Theo. The energy of London Fashion Week is totally different. It’s less commercial, slightly less overwhelming, and people who come are definitely a bit more adventurous with their sartorial choices.
Take a look:
Ok, so remember the Virgos Lounge silver sequined jumpsuit Angela Simmons wore while in London ? Well, Oye (right) is the designer! Small world, right? She recognized the Fashion Bomb because we blogged about it here. At any rate, Oye looked fly in orange peel hued wide legged trousers by Blanco, a satin coral shirt from Topshop, and a metallic Marc Jacobs bag. Her friend Wunmi was rocking with Balenciaga heels, an Alexander Wang bag, and, naturally, a sheer dress from Virgos Lounge. Wunmi blogs at www.daisy-mak.com.
Where else but in London would you spy a guy rocking such a creative fuzzy cardigan? P’atrice made his look work by mixing in subdued elements like PPQ pants, Vivienne Westwood shoes, and a vintage bowtie.
Lastly, I had to stop Pepper, an editor for Fab Magazine (www.fabmagazineonline.com). Loved, loved, loved her turban, vintage jacket, American Apparel dress, and Kurt Geiger shoes.
