While I’m obviously not backstage at Jeremy Scott’s Fall 2011 show during London Fashion Week, I can still bring you guys the scoop on the makeup. Val Garland at MAC Cosmetics created quite the brightly colored face to coordinate with the designer’s quirky designs.
Of the look Garland says, “She’s an early ‘90s club girl… a total individual. Different colour waves of acid green, yellow, orange, and magenta clash with the show… it’s utter madness!”
And because our varying skin tones are notoriously good looking in brights, I bring you the MAC products used to create the runway looks via MAC PRO.
EYE
M·A·C PRO Genuine Orange Paintstick – blended over the entire eyelid as a base
Cherry Lip Pencil – blended through the crease for a contour
M·A·C PRO Orange Eye Shadow – applied over the entire eyelid for a highlight
M·A·C PRO Hi-Def Cyan Chromagraphic Pencil – applied through the lower lashes to define, then followed with Electric Eel Eye Shadow to set
Fascinating Eye Kohl – applied through the waterline of lower lashes to brighten eyes
35 Lash is applied along the upper lashline and followed with 7 Lash along the lower lashline
LIP
Lipsticks Saint Germain and Myth – pre-mixed and feathered on with a brush for a cool pink lip
FACE
Face and Body Foundation – blended lightly over skin for a flawless, natural finish
While the color combos on the runway are hot, the application used should definitely stay on the runway. To recreate at home, ditch the exaggerated lashes as the bright colors make a statement enough on their own. When working with brights it’s also important to not let the color extend past the crease into the brow bone. A more natural look would involve using a lighter shade (usually one 2-3 shades lighter than your skin tone) to define the brow bone and make the look more dimensional. Also keep in mind when brights are most appropriate: a night on the town with the girls? Yes. At your 9 A.M. corporate board meeting? No.
Biggest thing to know about working with brights? Blend, blend, blend, blend. A quick windshield wiper motion works great for the crease while a quick, tight circular motion is a great method for blending elsewhere.
What’s your take on brights? Do you wear them? Do they frighten you?
