Ok, so can I keep it real?
There are very few people of color kicking it in Milan. Aside from my blogging buddies and maybe 3 or 4 editors, there is nada. Capice?
So in the spirit of being the change I want to see in the world, I decided to diversify. I present you with Real Style Milan, Day 2:

These Italian fashionistas Greek editors for Vogue Hellas looked spot on in Balenciaga bags and straight-from-the-runway Burberry Spring/Summer 2011 jackets. Lovely on the right is actually rocking the same trench Kim Kardashian was spied in a few weeks ago. Their jackets were fierce on their own, so skinny jeans and black pumps were perfect complements to their look.
What do you think of this installment of Real Style?

HOT!

i honestly wish change was in the other direction since people of color are so underrepresented in the fashion industry, and white people are so overrepresented, but i digress….
anyway, these ladies look fantastic. i didn’t like the baubles on the sleeve when kim k was wearing it, but it looks great here. and i love how their styles are simple but chic.

LOVE those trenches! Burberry? Change is good, they might not be “colored” but they are still fierce! Sorry there are not many of us in Italy though…

I love love the jacket on the left

The jacket on the left has got to be MINE! They look so Italian – chic, understated and glam. I’m so used to seeing Africans and African-Europeans in various parts of Italy, maybe they just didn’t come out for the shows *shrugs*. The redhead is giving major face!

Fabulously chic. I die for that jacket on the left…

I wish you would diversify more often. I don’t think “urban” has to mean of african descent.
But I understand your reason for doing so and it is your blog…:)
February 24, 2011 6:11 pm
Both of those jackets are fire. Crazy how a good quality jacket makes your whole outfit looks expensive as well.

Claire, I don’t mind the diversity but in response to another poster saying that urban doesn’t have to mean African descent I think it’s important to keep in mind that your website and content caters to a niche market.
As an African American woman I like to see myself represented on this site in a way that it isn’t on Elle.com and other sites.

[...] Guys! So my first show today was Moschino at Via Senato. As I mentioned yesterday there aren’t a ton of women of color, but there are a select few who are here working and [...]

Um Iris dear… how’s about you just pop that jacket in the mail for me k? lol. i LOVE it. i didn’t like the way the one on the left was worn by Kim K but the way chickadee is rocking it in the pic is perfection. very nice!
as for “urban” referring to brown folks… i agree with Anon 8:05pm… this is a site geared toward us brown girls so seeing “urban” fashion as such is normal. not to mention, when fashion was first defined as “urban”… we were the ones who formed that style into being. there’s nothing wrong with the word or what it represents…
