After everyone caught onto the turban craze a few months ago (thanks, in part, to Ms. Ambrose herself)…
It seems Ms. Ambrose is searching to steer away from the fashionable crowd (and perhaps kick start a new trend) with this revised look.

Can’t it just be spring already? *sigh* Since it can’t I figured we could go over a few makeup trends we can look forward to for spring.
Back in November I attended a Night of Beauty at Robert Verdi‘s Luxe Lounge where legendary makeup artist and Covergirl Global Creative Design Director Pat McGrath herself spoke to a group of editors and bloggers about spring makeup trends. BTW, Pat is not only super sweet in person (I think I also spoke in a British accent for a week after meeting her), but she also designed a new line of Covergirl Queen Collection Lipsticks for women of color. It’s an awesome range of colors, ya know. You can see swatches of three of them here.
Anyway, onto the trends!
1. Red, Red, Red.
Gucci Spring 2011
While red lips are generally considered a fall/winter staple (I wear mine year round), they will be major this spring, says McGrath.

2. Minimal Makeup and Strong Brows.
Versace Spring 2011
Sure minimal makeup was done before in the 90s, but this spring’s minimal has been updated. How? McGrath says back then it was literally minimal—bare skin and very, very little makeup. But for Spring 2011 we’re seeing polished skin along with the strong brow. The brows were created using two brow pencils to feather them in and Pat added “a touch of silver” to the skin to get it to really glisten.
3. Bright Shadows and Full-on Maximal Makeup.

As a total opposite of the minimal makeup, here we have full makeup. Bright shadows and bold lips that we’re normally told to wear separate are being joined together. The look Pat created at Christian Dior was full on matte, bright colored lids. As she explained to us the look is absolutely beautiful with loads of mascara (or even false lashes).

French Brand Hixsept recently released images from their Spring/Summer collection called “Problème et crépuscule”:
Their warm weather lineup consists largely of bright oranges, turquoises, and forest greens set off by pastel blue and peach.
Flourishes like check laden boat shoes, scarves, and button down tops and a bit of personality.

“…I LOVE accessories! I like to count my hair as an accessory too. (hehe), AND my nails. My nails are always VERY artsy and different at all times. I like bright colors and sparkly things.”
“People ask me all the time “OMG WHERE DID YOU GET THAT?!” and I honestly can never remember because I am such a random shopper. I shop at a lot of the boutiques in certain neighborhoods in L.A. where a lot of the people who love my clothes would not go. (I am not afraid to shop in the hood…they have the best clothes)…if people could step outside of the box sometimes…(drive to the hood and shop…lol)…they could wear some of the things they see me in.”

So our first My Favorite Things interview of 2011 is with the beautiful Keshia Knight Pulliam!
You may remember Keshia as Rudy from The Cosby Show, but she’s all grown up, and is currently co-starring in the new season of Tyler Perry’s House of Payne airing Wednesdays at 9PM on TBS ((her character and Lance Gross’ character have a baby this season).
An industry veteran, Keshia has been fly since she received her first Louis Vuitton bag at age 6 (she said, “It is the smallest, cutest classic little kid sized bag…I’ve kept it all these years and it started my love and appreciation for handbags.“) Now in her thirties, she says she’s, “stopped caring what others think and embraced my individuality.” Ok! So of course we had to contact the chic connoisseur to ask about her style along with her fashion and beauty must haves.
About her style, Keshia says, “I like classic pieces & I like to accessorize with more trendy unexpected items. I absolutely LOVE shoes & handbags!! They are definitely my biggest splurge. I have a whole closet the size of a small bedroom dedicated to shoes & handbags. The most important thing that I do is tailor just about everything. I am petite so most everything has to be altered. You can make a cute H&M find look like it came from Neiman Marcus with the right tailoring.”
She continues, “I wear a lot of J brand jeans & pants. Christian Louboutin is my favorite shoe designer. I like Dolce & Gabbana dresses because they are always cut so well.”
And they’re oh so flattering! What about her biggest splurge? She says, “I would say that my biggest ticket item is the actual closet!! When I remodeled I wanted to build my dream closet with a dressing room and salon. I made sure there was a place for EVERYTHING!! It ended up being a two level girly masterpiece. I’m in love!! I feel like I’m shopping when I get dressed.”

And what about Beauty Buys? She says, “I am big on healthy skin, so when I am not working, I rarely wear make-up. My biggest must haves are my La Mer eye concentrate, Lancome Hypnose mascara in excessive black, and my Clinique air kiss lip gloss. I drink lots of water because I believe that great skin starts from the inside. Currently, my favorite perfume is Very Hollywood by Michael Kors.”

The Jersey native, who says her idea of heaven is, “Chocolate, a big juicy steak with a Crown Royale & coke, and being surrounded by friends and family,” has a few exciting new developments on the horizon. She’s nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in Tyler Perry’s House of Payne for the 42nd Annual NAACP Image Awards.
Let’s keep an eye peeled for her when the awards show airs in February.
