How Young Is Too Young for Girls to Wear Makeup?

    by Claire

I was cruising over at Essence.com when I saw an article about Walmart’s new Tween Makeup Line called GeoGirl:

The collection, which will hit stores in February, is targeted towards girls aged 8-12. The 69 product assortment will include blush, mascara, face shimmer, and lipstick. Carmen Bauza, WalMart’s merchandise manager of beauty and personal care, explained, “GeoGirl is about teaching this generation about beauty care in a responsible way.”
Hmm, age 8-12 is way too young to be wearing makeup in my opinion. Shouldn’t girls be more focused on simply playing, learning, and being a kid?
    Unless you’re a pop star…

Leave the makeup for your momma!
What do you think? What is the best age for girls to start wearing makeup?
    Read more at Essence.com.

Who Wore it Better? Kim Kardashian vs. Nicki Minaj in Christian Louboutin Change of the Guard Sandals

    by Claire

Celebrities love their Louboutins, especially Christian’s fringed Change of the Guard sandals.

Kim Kardashian wore the 6 inch heels in black this past weekend with skinny cuffed jeans, a transparent top, and a black Balenciaga bag. Nicki Minaj wore the sandals in turquoise to set off her colorful Pre Fall Versace dress and matching stockings for a VH1 Diva’s Salute to the Troops performance.

The $1,665 suede stunners feature fringe details and a wrap around ankle strap.

I think both ladies rocked it! Kim looked cool and casual to run errands, and Nicki was stage appropriate in bright turquoise stompers.

    What do you think?

Weekend Hot! or Hmm…: The 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards

    by Claire

Hey everyone!  Vuitton here with a post weekend wrap up of the 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.  As you come to know me, you’ll discover that I’m not one to watch the actual show (with the exception of the Grammy’s and the VMA’s), but celeb-watching on the red carpet is right up my alley…because that’s all that matters, right?  Although the SAG Awards didn’t offer a myriad of our favorite red carpet constants, we still managed to snag a few shots of celebs who left us wanting more, and some who just simply underwhelmed us.  Let’s have a look see!

First up is Eva Longoria in Georges Hobeika Couture…

The actress rarely does any wrong in her gown choices, and this picture shows  us why.  It’s refreshing to finally see her in something other than black, and despite the deep V, she still manages to look sexy and chic without overdoing it.  Hot!

Reality starlet Kim Kardashian also hit the red carpet in this Marchesa Resort gown…

Survey says…hot!  I’m not sure I’ve seen her wear anything plum, and this gown does justice for her skin tone.  I love the embellishments around the shoulder, bust and waist.  That may sem like a lot of places to place beading, but it works on this dress.

Rosario Dawson made an appearance wearing J. Mendel gown…

Personally, I think she looks fabulous.  Yes, the dress is simple, but I love how she paired the pale yellow of the gown with those bright green drop earrings.  Her hair gives her ensemble a boost as well.

The Glee girls were in full effect with Amber Riley leading in a gown by Anne Barge…

Amber is slowly becoming a red carpet fave of mine.  She looks absolutely stunning in this black asymmetrical mermaid gown.  I’m not 100% crazy about the rosette details at the bottom, but the girl looks amazing nonetheless.  Hot!

Co-star Naya Rivera also sidled down the carpet representing for the Glee girls…

However, she didn’t represent well.  This is what happens when a beautiful girl gets the dress all wrong. I love the color, but the dress is so boring.  If you cut it at the waist, I could definitely see this as a top in the bargain bin at a superstore.  I have faith, though, that she’ll bounce back from this.

And representing for the guys is Taye Diggs…

The actor and his smile look incredibly dapper in a black tux.  I wasn’t initially a fan of the color of the bowtie, but it has grown on me the more I look at it.

And last, but not least is Garcelle Beavais-Nilon who attended a SAG Awards pre-party hosted by Entertainment Weekly…

She’s been painting the town a lot lately, and looking hot while doing so.  Her hair and makeup look divine, and that striped skirt is something fierce!  A red clutch adds some pop to the outfit without drawing any attention away from it.  Hot!

Who rocked it, and who didn’t, this week for you?

    ~Vuitton

    Real Style: Brooklyn Fashion Forum

    by Claire

    Hey Guys!

So a few weeks ago I received an invite from Fashion Bomb reader and aspiring stylist Seleah Bussey to speak on a panel for the “Brooklyn Fashion Forum.” Bussey invited entrepreneurs from several industries–Hawa Abdul of Hawa Cosmetics, Mathieu Kraut, a former head merchandiser for Macy’s, and Dereyna Swann of Swarey Designs–to speak to high school and college students about what it takes to make your mark in the industry. The Fashion Forum went down yesterday at Restoration Plaza, and before I took the mic I had to take pictures of the very fashionable ladies in the room.

Brooklyn ladies showed out. Take a look:

These young fashion writers for www.hiayork.com were working fur trimmed cardis and patterned jeans. All the ladies looked lovely, but I was drooling over Hia’s purple suede Jeffrey Campbell Lita shoes!! I’ve reached my shopping spending limit for January (New Years Resolution: budget), but in February those are mine.

I next stopped Adrianne Smith, a designer for her jewelry brand, PinkVelvetDesigns.com. Adrianne had just come from church, and looked super cute in her camel skirt suit with dark brown accents. A Louis Vuitton speedy and bubblegum pink lipstick completed her conservative chic look.

I adored this young diva’s canary yellow sweater and curled short haircut. Sometimes you just need a pop of color to make your outfit and brighten your wardrobe.

I had serious closet envy with these friends, who looked very sophisticated yet edgy in blazers, skinny jeans, and eye popping shoes. I asked the details on their outfits, and with the exception of diva on the left’s Gucci belt, they had all purchased their separates from stores like H&M, Aldo, and Forever 21. Living proof that you don’t have to spend a ton to look great.

And of course I couldn’t forget Seleah Bussey, who invited me to speak. The FIT graduate and future stylist was the perfect host in vintage Jean Paul Gaultier leggings, a metallic skirt, and booties.  Ms. Seleah is one to watch!!

Next time I’ll invite you guys to come hear me yap on about blogging and writing. I was a little nervous about speaking, so wanted to try out my speech skills in front of a small crowd. But next time I’m on a panel, I’ll let you know.

At any rate, what do you think of the Real Style at the Brooklyn Fashion Forum?

*Thanks again to Seleah and the distinguished panelists who shared the floor with me. Learn more about the Brooklyn Fashion Forum panelists by visiting Hawa Abdul at www.hawacosmetics.com, Mathieu Kraut at www.worldofchildren.org, and Dareyna Swann at www.swareydesigns.com.

    Swagger Mondays: Monique Kiera

Today Swagger turned their camera on Swagger staffer Monique, whose closet consists of lovely oversized vintage tops, sparkles, and acid washed goodies:

It’s no secret why this stylish chick is part of the Swagger team!

Weekend Beauty Hot! or Hmm…: Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Amber Riley, and More!

    by Danielle

Happy Monday! Hope you all had great weekends! Thanks to all of you lovely folks who came out in the snow for my Tweet Your Face Off event with Nasilele Photography! It was a great turnout—about 50-60 people. Loved hanging with old friends and meeting new ones–it was a blast! Thanks everybody and especially thanks to Claire for telling you Fashion Bombshells about it :)

    Now onto the celebs…

…who were very scarce this weekend. Guess folks were trying to recoup from the last slew of awards shows to get ready for the next. But let’s take a look at the few that we spotted.

If you’re as much of a Beyoncé stan as I am, all you need is this little sliver of the superstar to get your Bey fix. I can’t see her whole face but I’m loving the curls peaking through and that hot red lip. I’m also gonna need that coat. ASAP.

“Glee”‘s Amber Riley is so freaking cute! I almost always love her makeup and this time is no exception. I’m living for the eyes, cheeks (which looks a lot like the Mighty Aphrodite Blush I got from the soon to be released MAC Wonder Woman collection–see pics of that collection here), and gorgeous lip color (which looks strikingly close to MAC Girl About Town Lipstick–see a swatch here). Love the navy blue nail polish, too. Work it, Amber! HOT!

Alicia Keys was spotted with her husband Swizz Beatz at a Knicks game. Perfect event to attend after celebrating your 30th birthday. She rocked minimal makeup, cute readers, and a fly ballerina bun piled on top her head. Hot!

The always gorgeous Garcelle Beauvais attended an Entertainment Weekly party over the weekend. I like the eyes, but the brown lipstick seems to wash out the look. Something a smidgen brighter would have worked really nicely with her milk chocolate (great, now I want a Ritter Sport bar) skin.

And finally (yeah, told you there weren’t that many celebs out…lol), Gabrielle Union was spotted leaving a club this weekend. She looks her usually svelte, cute Gabrielle-self, but there might be a slight “situation” at the crown and hairline.
    What do you say, Bombshells?
