Hey Fashion Bombers! Vuitton here with a quick recap of the shows and festivities that took place last weekend in little Bahamaland. Islands of the World Fashion Week is an event held every year to showcase the collections of designers from all over the globe whom one wouldn’t normally see at a major fashion week such as New York or Paris. But that’s not to imply that any of these designers are lacking any technique or creativity or can’t be compared to some of fashion’s most notable and revered.

IWFW celebrated the craftsmanship of local designers, like David Rolle, whose collection blew everyone’s mind.
If not only for the use of interesting fabrics, the silhouettes, construction and his models wearing handcuffs down the runway, then it’s definitely because Rolle is not trained. So now he can put his NextGen Winner prize to good use. He won a full scholarship to Parsons School of Design in New York! Congrats!
Designer Theodore Eleyett has been creating garments for a number of years, but he’s been a force to be reckoned with as of late. His collection this year was full of bold colors and vibrant prints, and he paid special attention to making certain the woman who wears his designs feels nothing short of glamorous.

Theodore was also a recipient of a full scholarship to Parsons!
Aside from Bahamian designers, others from all over the world flew down to show their collections. Project Runway Season 1 winner Jay McCaroll gave us a taste of what he was working on.
I’m personally not a huge fan of patchwork, but McCarroll makes it work here. He delivered a very cohesive and wearable collection, while managing to give us a lot of color.
And speaking of color…Indashio brought life and excitement with his collection. Those who weren’t clapping along to the music were clutching their pearls and fanning themselves because of the male model gliding down the runway covered in kisses while sporting a thong…

And not to be outdone, Indashio himself came out after the final walk, sporting a blonde wig, a FIERCE pink feathered dress, and a can of Red Bull while shaking a tailfeather to Beenie Man’s song “Rum and Redbull”.
But the star of the show was designer from the Philippines, Oliver Tolentino. Often compared to The Emporer himself, Valentino, it’s not difficult to see why. Granted, the name is a huge one to live up to, but I couldn’t stop myself from clapping at every look.

With impeccable beading and extraordinary silhouettes, Tolentino brought drama, excitement and glamor to the runway. While posing with his muse, he explained that his final look was made of raw silk, pineapple, and freshwater pearls. Now if that doesn’t epitomize creativity, then I don’t know what does.
And of course, what would any fashion week be without a few fabulous shindigs?

All in all, I had an amazing time with some lovely people. I definitely can’t wait to see what’ll be in store next year!
