The UK singer has done it again! Twice already in a matter of two weeks, VV Brown has stepped out with yet another look that has me staring at her pic for extended periods of time.
This time around she’s rocking bright lips and bright cheeks. What makes this look work and doesn’t mimic 80s makeup is that while she’s using two brights, everything is simple.
To get a similar look to VV Brown’s:
1. Cleanse, tone, and moisturize your skin according to your skin type. Be sure to have your brows properly manicured and rid the face of any excess facial hair.
2. Apply semi-matte finish foundation like Black Opal True Color Liquid Foundation (about $9 at select drugstores). Set with a loose powder like Becca Fine Loose Finishing Powder.
3. Keep the eyes simple. Just a little liner (try Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero) and some 2-3 coats of mascara (try Rimmel The Max Bold Curves Extreme Volume & Lift Mascara).
4. Pair two similarly colored blush and lipsticks together. Try Black Radiance Perfect Tone Lip Color in Uptown Red #5013 (just $1.99 at select drugstores) on the lips and Black Radiance Sheer Finish Blush in Ruby Treasure (about $3.99 at select drugstores) on the cheeks. Apply some loose powder on top of the blush for a “lit from within” look. Set it all with a makeup setting spray like Make Up For Ever Mist & Fix Spray.
Pharrell is partnering with boot brand Timberland to create 90 different styles of eco-friendly boots:
The collaboration will be in association with Bionic yarn, a company Pharrell co-owns that creates fabrics made from 50% organic cotton and 38% recycled plastic bottles. The Bionic Yarn Timberland boots will be in stores in January.
Guys, would you rock these?

Hey Guys!
It’s been a while since we’ve had a My Favorite Things post, so we decided to bring it back with Bajan singer Shontelle:
Not familiar? The 23-year-old childhood pal of Rihanna has already made a mark on the music industry with her hot single “Impossible,” and has been making her rounds performing at Black Girls Rock!, sitting front row at fashion shows, and dipping into some of the hottest industry events. She took a break from her busy schedule to introduce herself to you guys and also tell us about her personal style. Ready?
She says, “My personal style varies but it’s usually easy-going and comfy. My fave designers include Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen, D&G, Chanel, Helmut Lang, Stella McCartney, Alexander Wang, Louis Vuitton and Christian Louboutin to name just a few. They are masters of classic, timeless designs and just as good for edge and quality is unmatched by most. There’s a lot of black and white, yellows, purples, greens, tans and blues in my wardrobe. Recently a lot of stony, grayish tones, metallics and jewel tones.” “…I wear over-sized t-shirts, leggings and ballet slippers or flat riding or military boots or cool sneakers. I especially love the Fall because I love layering! I’ll rock ripped up shorts with funky tights and some cool boots. I also really love hoods! On shirts, t’s, tanks, jackets, trenches, coats, sweaters, sweat shirts, dresses. I just love the mystery of hoods.” Shontelle says her favorite asset are her legs, as she displayed while performing recently in an Alice + Olivia feather skirt and Christian Louboutin Flannel Monfifi boots. She says, “My legs pretty much look great in everything. I was even the spokesmodel and legs for Veet! I wear lots of leggings and short dresses, skirts and pants. I like to dress in a way that accentuates my legs.”
Very cool! And we had to ask Shontelle about a few of her staple wardrobe items. She says, “I love my Alexander McQueen leggings I wore on tour with Beyonce, my Marc Jacobs “MJ” sunglasses, my Neon Orange Louis Vuitton Stephen Sprouse carry-all bag (my 1st gift to myself after being signed to Universal Motown), my new CAT boots, and my silver thumb ring with cz studs.”
And what about her favorite beauty buys? She says, “My absolute fave perfume in the world is Tom Ford Black Orchid. I’m on my 6th bottle now. There is no other fragrance on earth like it and its so distinctive and beautiful. It even smells great on men! My favorite makeup brands are MAC, Smashbox, Dior and Bobbi Brown. They are light and natural and are great for day time and night time. I love their bronzers and metallics…and they have the best nudes, pinks and peaches! I also love the Bliss line of facial care products, Keri lotion, and Carol’s daughter body butters.”
Great list.
Ms. Shontelle will be dominating your airwaves very soon, so keep an eye peeled for her! In the meantime, follow her on Twitter at www.twitter.com/shontelle_layne, visit her website www.shontellemusic.com, and check out a video for her newest single Perfect Nightmare:
Choreographer Fatima Robinson made a rare appearance on the red carpet of the launch of Elle Magazine’s Ellements with White House/Black Market last night in New York:
The Arkansas native wore a cream floor grazing dress under a tough leather jacket, and accessorized her look with leopard shoes, ethnic jewels, a fur cross body bag, and a trendy felt hat: Fatima let her eclectic predilections show, though this outfit would be difficult to pull off for anyone else. She has a lot going on, but she certainly makes it work, no?
What do you think?
A few more pictures from the night:

Reader AJ says, “I’m going to a showing of “A Free Man of Color” featuring Jeffrey Wright and Mos Def this Saturday at Lincoln Center (!!!). I need inspiration. I swear you’ve done a post/feature on stylish options to wear for a night out on Broadway, but cannot find for the life of me (or my wardrobe!). Your help is much appreciated.”
Sure! A night out at the theater is a semi-formal to formal event, so a knee or tea length dress is probably most appropriate. I’d say play it safe in neutral black or winter white, but have fun with texture like lace or even feathers. Stay on trend with a cape and military booties, and slip on a pair of gloves for added chic:
Accent your look with simple black earrings and a fun clutch. Add a little va va voom with a red lip. The options above are a little pricey, so I provided several options to help you get the look:

Rihanna sizzles on the cover of Marie Claire UK’s December 2010 Holiday Issue:
She wears a bejeweled dress by English designer Mark Fast along with sparkly star shaped earrings and a flowing mane of red hair.
Rihanna looks gorgeous as always. What do you think?
So we’ve already discussed men in skirts and men with murses. What do you guys think of males in harem pants?
Reader Christian wrote in saying, “I recently came across a pair of harem pants and fell in love with them. I did some research and found some in different styles, textures, and colors. I just wanted to know what do you and the readers feel about males in these pants? In Europe they are very common…”
I think that if you have the swag, you can pull anything off! I can totally see a fashionable gentleman working these with a button down and a blazer.
Many designers like Jose Duran regularly feature drop crotch trousers in their line ups. And of course we can’t forget the original harem pants master:
But what do you think? Hot or Hmm?
