I bought this month’s issue of Ebony specifically because of the fantastic vintage replica spreads inside. I think the models were all well-chosen except Samuel L Jackson as MLK. Better choices might have been Pres. Obama, obviously, or Dr. King’s handsome son Dexter, or Denzel, Tyler Perry, or maybe T.D. Jakes. I also agree that Nia Long’s Dorothy Dandridge and Jurnee Smollet’s Lena Horne tributes were the most beautiful, but Regina King as Eartha Kitt and Yolanda Adams as Mahalia Jackson captured some spiritual essence of these women particularly well, I think. Good work, Ebony!
P.S. Lamman Rucker is a cutie, but Idris Elba would have captured legendary Richard Roundtree’s smoking hot sex appeal a lot better

For the record, as far as I know these aren’t covers. When I picked up the 65th anniversary issue, every picture above was in a spread inside the magazine. The actual cover of the 65th anniversary issue just has 4 or 5 of the celebs featured in gray outfits. So if you want the pictures yourself, you can just pick up an issue, they’ll be inside.

Beyonce stans? what does that even mean? you said Beyonce does not look like Etta James and so she wasn’t “realistic”. I responded by saying that Beyonce does not have to look like to Etta James for the movie to be effective. What matters is capturing the essence of Etta, not finding an actress that looks exactly like her. Looking like someone does not necessarily mean you can capture their essence.

I am really enjoying these set of covers…but as much as I love me some Nia Long…I don’t think she nailed this cover (hey, maybe there were better shots taken)…I feel that Halle or even Paula Patton could have captured Dorothy in her Ebony cover better
