Thanks so much to Taylor Evans for sending these in! See more shots at www.theblaquebook.com.
And if your school has style, send some pix in! We’d love to feature you as well.

I’m kinda hatin because I didn’t have nearly that much flavor in college. I’m loving that girl’s cut with the tapered sides. Hella fly.

October 18, 2010 7:00 pm
I like the looks alot..but college students with designer bags that cost a couple hundreds?!…hmmm must only be at HBCU’s…cause while attending school at Temple..i could barely afford food….ive also noticed that alot of students that attend HBCU’s tend to be more focused on attire around campus…school is basically a fashion show…dont hate…just my two cents
October 18, 2010 7:10 pm
I love this– HBCU’s stand up! Everyone is so “studious chic”.
October 18, 2010 8:08 pm
I really like it!!!
October 18, 2010 8:14 pm
OMG!!!! These are awesome pics. I love almost all of these looks. The concept is great! I love the letterman sweater and the boots and the short hair cut!!! Great got job Howard students!!!

My alma mater! :-) Glad to see this but while there was a good amount of fly folks on campus, there was a lot of fashion hype surrounding HU. So many people wore sweats/tees/flip flops to class, but you never see that, lol. And, I can’t forget the tutus/leggings combo plaguing campus my junior year…that was the pits. D-:

claire, can you please provide details on the brown boots with shearling lining in the 3rd picture? they are adorable! thank you!
October 19, 2010 5:38 pm
@Takeysha: As a student that attends an HBCU, I would definitely have to disagree with you. We are just as focused on our academics as students that attend predominantly white institutions. The culture is different at HBCUs and wearing sweats to class is just deemed unacceptable. There is nothing wrong with wanting to dress the part, because at the end of the day, we will earn our degrees just like you did at Temple. On a lighter note, I love my HBCU & Howard is representing us very well! They are too fly! Loveee it!
October 19, 2010 7:26 pm
yes HU! I love my HBCU!

Yes!!! I love, I love, I love my real HU! I love my school! :) Me being a current Freshmen Fashion Merchandising major at Howard and seeing these people in the pictures above everyday, they are a good representation of the fashion world at this university! There is more going on here, trust me. People from all over the world with different styles. Just glad to have some of my fellow classmates to represent! I just love it!

80′s alum – glad to see HU still lookin’ good. Shorts, flip flops and T’s are just so laaaaazy and unimaginative. Don’t hate us because we’re smart AND we look good!!!!
June 28, 2011 6:51 pm
Believe it or not, for those who think that having nice clothes and bags are impossible, think of the type of ppl who live in DC area, and the many thrift stores that many people frequent to donate and shop! It is possible, and its possible to do under $100 for an outfit, EASY. :-) SHOUT OUT TO MY ALMA MATER! HU!

@jaida the commenter you responded to didn’t say (even if she meant it) that students at Howard were focused more on fashion than education….but that students there are more focused on fashion…and I agree. I think that is an awesome thing. As a west coaster, the first time I set foot on Howard’s campus, my mind was blown. I had never seen anything like it! I know I barely had old navy money in college. As for Nor Cal, toting a louie was not the norm. We had our sprout sandwiches in one hand and protest signs in the other. so keep in mind that others may not identify with your experience. If this is how you all start off in undergrad, there is no where to go but up, as long as you continue to push forward. That’s the thing about the east coast. the energy is bananas. Folk act like they’ve made it while they are yet on their way. They look the part, believe that they deserve success and do not take no for an answer. no stopping until they reach the top. And if that begins with dressing fashionably well… then point me toward Tyson’s so I can do some damage…

I’m so happy to see this because a couple of years ago, it was the norm for girls especially at HBCU’s to dress up like they were going to the club everyday!!!! Honestly, I went to a predominantly white state school and Howard is more focused on academics and just striving for overall intelligence outside of the basic curriculum. The white school I went to, there was alot of focus on academics and not so much learning outside of the university curriculum. The next biggest focus was partying and drinking…

Yesssss Howard! Come on a represent HBCU’s && the REAL HU!!! People can say what they want but we are def a CUT ABOVE the rest! Our school and our style is AMAZING!!! Werrrrk! *Howard Hand* #ProudBison :)
