Hey Guys!
So while New York Fashion Week officially ended last Thursday, the design stars of Harlem World came out on Friday for “Harlem’s Fashion Row,” (www.harlemsfashionrow.com) a presentation at the Studio Museum of Harlem showcasing designers of color. The presentations themselves were super chic, and of course the night’s attendees reflected the stylish event.

Take a look at a few outfits I captured:
Lord knows I love a prep, and these friends were preptastic! I was swooning over their tailored jackets, ties, hats…just about everything! Joshua Woods, on the left, has a Tumblr called Virile (www.virile.tumblr.com) and the man in the tomato red clam diggers is photographer Rog Walker. Check out his Tumblr at www.rogwalker.tumblr.com.
This diva by the name of Monique looked scintillating in a gold sequined mini dress by Harlem’s Fashion Row designer, Sammy B (www.sammybdesigns.com). She accented her party perfect look with a blue and gold necklace, black sandals, and a neon pink pedicure.
This young urbanite looked confident in black and dark blue layers punched up by sangria red lace up boots. Subtle touches like stacked bracelets, readers, a newsboy hat, and a camera slung over his shoulder added to his cool mystique.
Lastly, based on their outfits I could’ve sworn these friends were designers, but they were simply expert vintage shoppers. From left, Prentiss, Khendra, and David, who flawlessly mixed high and low to achieve their looks–Prentiss in a shirt he found at a flea market in Paris and Nicole Miller pants, Khendra in an American Apparel body suit and vintage skirt, and David in vintage Versace shoes, Vivienne Westwood pants, and a vintage jacket. I’m going to need to bone up on my thrift shopping if one can look this good!
What do you think of Harlem’s Fashion Row Real Style?
Stay tuned for a post about Harlem’s Fashion Row designers Telfar, Niiamar, Viscera, and Sammy B.

@Lola you’re just mean. Go kick rocks.
Love the style in the pix, but am lol’ing at the lady in the background of the last pic. She’s working it (she’s on the left, looking seductive).

Lol @ Lola. Damn, I didn’t know fashion could make one so angry. I love the prepsters and I think Monique looks great in the gold mini dress. I can’t say I love the threesome in the last pic, but their confidence sells the looks.

Love the first and third pics! The gentleman in the third pic is so cool and handsome, lol.

Leave it YAMS (Lola and Joanne) to try and give commentary on fashion. I won’t spread the negative energy though…just know your outfits from Macy’s clearance isn’t true fashion.

I don’t like any of these looks here, they all seem so try-hard-ish to me. Very costume-y. These people need to understand the balance when it comes to art and fashion.

AND I totally forgot to mention, USE A BETTER CAMERA! AN SLR DIGITAL CAMERA(cannon rebel xsi, nikon, etc). Anyways, these people look like fools to me. They would be total stand-outs(in a bad way) at a fashion week.

AND it looks like, ole lady just pulled that dress off her shower pole and slipped into it.

@Amby your comments are generally rude, but I’ll take your suggestion to get a better camera. I know I need to get one, just been saving those pennies…

The gold sequins dress is just gorgeous. I am scared to do sequins especially all over but it looks so good on Monique especialy against her skin. There are amber reflections on the dress that is so pretty. I really do love it. What I love about these pics is that everyone has their own style. Not dictated or defined by anyone but themselves. It is not my style but I like it none the less. They look very fashion forward and confident which is key. I actually like these posts more than ones with celebrities because they don’t dress themselves. Keeping these coming Claire. Very HOT!!!!

I love the looks especially in the last pic…they really went out the box and put together fashion- an artful expression. I’m more than sure any of these people giving rude comments are “Plain Janes” or at least use that as an excuse to not take the time to put effort into themselves like these people do. I saw a few of these people a few places during fashion week and you better believe they brought the same effect- great creativity, confidence, FASHION!

HARLEM is the place! Did you know we have super sophisticated, elegant boutiques that rival downtown? My favorite is N Boutique–Lenox Ave @ 119th St. I know they have have Facebook page!

Completely inelegant. Why do people think being eclectic or bold automatically equals stylish. The fellow in the sweater had potential but has no concept of proper fit nor the proper tie knot for the shirt .
