According to JC Report, Saks Fifth Avenue will soon carry plus size designs by brands like Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, YSL, Alexander McQueen, and Prada:

Saks already has a plus size department, Salon Z, which features designer clothing from names like Dana Buchman and Marina Rinaldi in sizes 14 through 24. For the fall/winter season, however, voluptuous fashionistas will enjoy more options from higher end brands in sizes 14-20, depending on the brand.
The newest looks will only be available in New York, but it might be worth the trip to find a chic Chanel suit cut to flatter more voluptuous body types.
What do you think?
PS It’s a bit ironic that Chanel will have plus sized clothes after Karl expressed disdain for ’round women’ in a magazine interview last year. Perhaps the brand has finally seen the light–that plus size women deserve to be fashionable too.

I think it’s great. Plus size starts at 12 or 14 for designers. So now regular women can wear designer clothes.

Great, I don’t see why they can’t understand that plus-size money spends the same. Maybe plus-sized women should show them a thing or 12 and not buy that ish!

I’ll reserve praise/judgment until the collections come out. If they’re anything like Saks’ current offerings(with the exception of tadashi), they won’t be worth the effort. We need fashion, not more black poly-blend sacks with belts.

wow, who knew those companies were finally starting to produce plus size clothing too. i guess they finally got the message (particularly in this economy) that you can’t afford to alienate potential customers.

Interesting news and I hope this works. There are some well-off ladies who are extended missy sizes who can drop money on clothes. I think these will be cut like misses rather than women’s sizes.
For instance, designers like Oscar de la Renta go up to size 20, and Chanel also has larger sizes — I own some pieces from those houses in 18s and 20s.
