So I was walking around my neighborhood when I stumbled across a kiosk advertising Elle France’s April issue:

The edition is dedicated to plus size beauties, and has model Tara Lynne on the cover sporting a not-so-flattering white jumpsuit. Inside, the model is shown nude in the opening shot of a 20 page spread:

I definitely like the idea of a plus size issue, but think the Elle France team could have done a little better with the execution. A Monif C dress, for example, would have been more becoming than that skin clinging crinkled white number (which would make even the skinniest of minnies look like a marshmallow). And why the nude picture in a fashion magazine? Hmmm….
What do you think?
See the rest of the spread here.

I actually like the nude photo and white jumper. I thought the nude pic was showing fashion is really being comfortable in your own skin.

In my opinion being comfortable in your own sign is having confidence in your self not the amount of weight that you carry. For example that romper is very simple plan Hampton chic, But on Tara Lynne the crotch area esp. is highly unflattering ! But as for the nude shoot she is very beautiful plus size and all (hopefully healthy) with that almond olive skin. I also give Elle one big hand clap for featuring plus size edition. One bomb star for them !

I think the nude pic is beautiful. And like the other commenters, think it’s about being comfortable in your own skin. The cover looks like what an average woman would look like in that…and would probably wear. Maybe that was their aim? I dunno. Good for them for this issue though.

Because our society focuses on the ideal image of models being skinny it is refreshing to see a beautiful plus size model on the cover of a Fashion Magazine…. Way to go Elle (Paris).

Its not that the nude pic is not beautiful… It’s just over done in my opinion. Every single mainstream magazine with a “plus size” issue has included a nude shot. To quote the NYT The Cut, “It Wouldn’t Be a ‘Size’ Issue If the Plus-Size Models Weren’t Naked’… he industry needs a new gimmick. You can see the article here http://nymag.com/daily/fashion/2010/01/v_magazine_spread_1.html

I think the nude pic it is obvious why its part of a fashion shoot…whats to question… how many fashion editorials have we seen kate or naomi naked in. I think the jumpsuit looks nice on her body since most Plus size clothes look cheap and hoochy mama. Kudos for shouting out your girl though. And its not over done since people are still so not used to seeing women like this in fashion they are still uncomfortable with it. Dare someone to make these comments about black models.

I think it’s awesome that Elle did this, especially in France. My only complaint about these type of campaigns is that all the models are still crazy tall and there is still obvious photo editing. There’s no way those ladies’ legs are so cellulite free, lol. I would love to see the fashion industry start using more diverse women. All colors and ALL shapes.

I love the nude pic! She is beautiful. I am bigger than she is and despite all evidence to the contrary, I honestly think I’m too fat to be pretty. (Please don’t tell my friends, they would spend vast amounts of time trying fruitlessly to tell/show me other wise) But looking at this beautiful bigger girl, naked rather than bound up in body slimming this and that, maybe I can be beautiful at my size. She doesn’t look unattractive at all. I can look at her objectively and see that she is beautiful. So maybe I am beautiful too, even with nothing on.

I like the nude pic! She looks beautiful and healthy. So nice to see some real curves instead of bones. Very womanly.
