Greetings, gorgeous ones! Danielle here with a Beauty Bomb.
Step aside red, there’s a new lip color in town and her name is Orange (pronounced OR-WRENCH).
I touched on the orange lip last year and if you didn’t rock it then, now is the time to give her a go. The bold hue is best complimented with a fairly understated face and a bad attitude–needed for all the naysayers trying to blot out your shine.
If you’re ready to be bold, check out my tips for finding the right orange:
Fair Skin (think Jurnee Smollet or Rihanna): Try a more modest pinky-orange. Anything too dark and bright can be too much for your fair skin. Try MAC Lipstick in CB 96 or Make Up For Ever Lipstick in Pinkish Orange 403
Tanned/Golden Skin (think Beyonce or Eva Mendez): Go for a bright warm orange likeMake Up For Ever Lipstick in Flourescent Orange 201.
Olive Skin (think Padma Lakshmi or Lakshmi Menon): Go for a neutral orange like MAC Lipstick in So Chaud.
Golden Brown Skin (think Tyra or Queen Latifah): Try a warm orange like MAC Lipstick in Lady Danger
Dark Skin (think Gabrielle Union or Alek Wek): Brighter hues show up so beautifully on darker skin tones, so be bold and try an orange like MAC Lipstick in Morange.
Don’t get too caught up in racial or ethnic backgrounds when it comes to skin color. People of different racial or ethnic backgrounds can have similar coloring and therefore can wear similar makeup shades. The suggestions I made above are to help you narrow down your choices, but are not absolutes-–you can definitely try shades for a skin tone that differs from yours (for instance MAC Lipstick in Morange can be worn by a multitude of tones). The general idea is the darker your skin, the deeper and brighter you can go with your lip color.
P.S. For a completely FIRE lip combo that’s definitely not for the tame, try MAC Lady Danger Lipstick with Make Up For Ever Waterproof Lip Pencil in 17C and then top it off with Illamasqua Intense Lipgloss in Temper. Hey, you either go hard or go home!
Lovely ladies of The Fashion Bomb, would thou rocketh the orange lip?

I heart the orange look. Should I wear orange blush too?

I am really into the orange look. I am very disappointed in the limited representation of skin tones for African American women. Really the dark skin and the olive skin are the only skin tones that are geared to African American women in a blog that caters to women of color? I feel like I am reading Cosmo where I never fit into the skin color catergories or come close

Hey Adorable!
Please don’t be disappointed—I have this same post topic on my site and literally copied and pasted the wording here. My site has a ton of readers from all races and I forgot to edit the names of the celebrities next to the skin tones when I posted it here. I’ll fix that.
But the color recommendations listed below that part still remain the same and as I did mention are not absolutes and can be used on varying skin tones.
I answer tons of personalized makeup and beauty questions behind the scenes, so if you’d like you can contact me and I’d be more than happy to help out :)

@Pinkflame1983 Yes, you can, but try to sheer out the blush with loose powder so that it doesn’t compete with your lip color :)

I’m also falling for orange. Just got a 711 of Clarins’ Joli Rouge. It’s a bit light but looks good anyway. I specially love it with transparent lipgloss.
But the reason why I really stopped by was to know the name of the pink lipstick in the picture. My heart really beats up faster for pinks!

I stumbled on your website, and it is really beautiful. I am a 55 year old african american woman who is determined to get back in touch with her DIVA!
I am working on my weight and I am wondering, will you have any stylish words of wisdom for me? I love suits, suits, suits.
Thank you for this website,
Sincerely,
