Fashion Bombshell of the Day: Major Mocha

    by Claire

    Hey!
It’s been a while since we’ve had a Bombshell of the Day, and found a worthy candidate with Mocha of the blog www.majormocha.com:

Of her outfit, she explains, “During Fashion week I went to the hot new funky shades designer Stevie Boi’s launch party for his Fallen Angel collection. I had no clue what to wear because a few days before the event I saw Stevie Boi and his crew in the tents at Bryant Park and he was “fierce”. His entourage was dressed so futuristic everyone was staring, I thought what do I wear to party with these futuristic fashionistas?? Thus I went home looked through my closet and came up with my own look. I wore a gold and black one piece that I had custom made for me by a designer from Brooklyn , thigh-high boots and a wild pair of Versace shades. The shades was such a big hit that Free formally of 106 & Park fell in love with them.”

“That’s me with models Rosa Acosta and Tanyka Renee. What do you think?”
Snaps to anyone with the courage to wear a gold and black one piece! I couldn’t pull that off…
    What do you guys think?

Vuitton’s Life: New York City In A Nutshell

    by Claire

So most of you guys probably didn’t know that this was my first time at New York Fashion Week, much less New York City.  Quite a drastic change from what I’m accustomed to in the Bahamas in terms of the weather, but after living in Canada for two years and Snowpocalypse two weeks ago I knew what I was in for.

New York was pretty cold, and since I didn’t get my things from Asos (which included a trench coat), I had to thug it out in my leather jacket most of the way.  But since I layered up with thermals, I was pretty much good to go.

Needless to say, the subways had me for a loop for a bit.  “Circles” mean local.  “Diamonds” mean express, and I didn’t figure this out until two days before I left.  Nonetheless, subways are the easiest, though somewhat confusing for fish out of water,  and least expensive way to get to and around the city.

Some of the rumors you’ve heard about New York City cab drivers are true.  Yeah, they’re pretty reckless.  I’m still thankful I came back home in one piece with the way a few of them were driving.  And a ton of them don’t really know where to take you.  I had to get in and out of four cabs because none of them knew where my hotel was from Manhattan.  Not to mention that most of them don’t even have GPS but have TV screens in the back seat for customers.  Not quite sure if I can find the logic in that one, but to each his own.

Being at the tents alone was a fashion show in itself.  Most of the attendees come dress to the nines, even if they’re not going to any shows.

Reason being there are a lot of photographers out there ready to take your pic for magazines and blogs if your outfit is eye catching or jaw dropping.  At fashion week, it’s undoubtedly one of the highest forms of flattery.

All in all, despite the fast-paced environment and the overwhelming skyscrapers, this island boy had a life-changing experience.  Hopefully when next season rolls around, I’ll have myiPhone and Macbook in tow to keep you guys on your toes with what Lincoln Centre will be like.  Au revoir, Bryant Park!

    Vogue Italia Launches Vogue Curvy

    by Claire

Forward thinking Vogue Italia recently launched Vogue Curvy, a website dedicated to voluptuous stylistas:

The website features glam and curvy girls like Crystal Renn, Lizzie Miller, and Johanna Day, and lives by Tyra Banks’ mantra, “Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes.”

First Italian Vogue made waves with the all black issue, now this. When you think of Italy, you don’t think of it as being particularly diverse, but they are showing and proving.

    What do you think?

Tyra Banks, Andre Leon Talley, and Team Gather for The CW Network Reality Launch Party

    by Claire

Tyra Banks, Andre Leon Talley, Nigel Barker, and Jay Manuel attended the CW Network Reality launch party at SL  last night in NYC:

Looks like the team had a good time.
I’m loving ALT’s big furry black hat and tooth pendant, and the rest of the cast looks chic in all black.

A few more pix of the fashionable crowd:

Stylist Malik so Chic was there looking flavorful…

As were socialites Tinsley Mortimer (left) and Dabney Mercer. Loving the neon mani Tinsley…

And former America’s Next Top Model winner Yoanna House was there looking lovely, yet very…different. Crazy what some extensions can do.

Cycle 14 will premiere March 10th on the CW Network.

    Will you be tuning in?

    by Claire

Adrienne Bailon went for cute and simple at last night Three-O Vodka’s Rangtang Launch Party hosted by Khloe Kardashian Odom, wearing a slick deep blue silk top with a patterned skirt and platform pumps:

She amped up the look for the red carpet with a cool black statement necklace, a bright red lip, and matching nails.

Get the Look: Leona Lewis’ Makeup at the Elle Style Awards 2010 in London

    by Danielle

Hi there, lovely ones! Danielle here with another makeup breakdown :)

British singer Leona Lewis was spotted at the Elle Style Awards yesterday in London in a gorgeous frock complete with a bright lip and electric eyes. Should you be so inclined as to try out her look, check out my tips on how to snag it:

    1. Beautiful makeup always starts with beautiful skin. Be sure to cleanse, tone, and moisturize your skin according to your skin type. Remember that bright colors like the one Leona rocks on her pout draw attention to an area so be very careful if you have blemishes there. But if you happen to have sprouted a pimple smack in the middle of your forehead, a bright pout could actually keep the eye away from it.

    2. Perfect your skin with a foundation stick that allows your skin to look like skin, but works double time to cover any skin discolorations. I love Becca Foundation Stick because it does just that AND it comes in a wide array of shades for virtually every skin tone. Set your foundation with a loose powder so it stays in place and lasts all day. I gotta bow down again to the people at Becca Cosmetics because their Fine Loose Finishing Powder is so fine and so skin-like that I would do unspeakable things for a container of it.

    3. Prep your eyes with an eyeshadow primer like MAC Paint to keep your eyeshadow put. Grab Leona’s eye look by blending in a silvery eyeshadow like MAC Eyeshadow in Electra. Then be sure to use a matte eyeshadow 1-2 shades lighter than your skin tone to highlight your brow bone. Finish your eyes with a thin line of black eyeliner (try a liquid like mark On the Edge Hook-up Liner or a pencil like Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes in Mat Black) on both your upper and lower lash line and 2 coats of mascara (try Dior DiorShow Mascara). If you have small eyes, don’t close the liner all the way into the inner corners of your eyes or they will look even smaller. Don’t forget to groom your brows.

    4. Adorn your cheeks with a rosy blush like NARS Blush in Taos (this gorgeous shade looks great on all girls light, dark, and in between—turn down its power with a light dusting of loose powder).

    5. Last, and certainly not least, get ready for the kick! Prep your lips for a bright shade by first exfoliating your lips to remove any dry areas. You can quickly do this by brushing over your lips with a wet toothbrush. Then apply a moisturizing balm (regular Chapstick will do). To get your lip color to last forever, line your lips with a lip pencil in a similar color as your lip color and then fill it in. Next apply a bright orange-red like MAC Lipstick in Lady Danger. Wearing a bright lip color can take a lot of attitude, but can be pulled off. Bright lips are also not to be avoided by the dark and lovely. I’m about NW47 in MAC foundations and wear bright lips quite often—and I wear braces. All kinds of stuff going on at once…lol.

Grab these products to complete your Leona look:

What do you think of Leona’s makeup? Would you rock this look?
