Lastly in a Beauty Bomb, Amber says, “In 2010 I am trying to step my game up, and I’m getting there with the clothes and shoes but I am clueless about make up. I’ve tried reading the beauty posts, but concealer and foundation are like jibberish to me. How can I make a nice natural everyday look (I am a full-time student, part-time waitress), and what exactly do I need to buy? I am mixed so my skin is very light, because I think I read that skin tone matters when picking colors and make-up.”
Our beauty correspondent Danielle says, “Finding the right foundation can be overwhelming, but is certainly not impossible. To familiarize yourself on what to look for when it comes to foundation, check out our post on Foundation 101.

While it’s always nice to snag a bargain, foundation quite often is not one of those items where you can just grab your shade at a drugstore and go. You may need to splurge a bit and visit a Sephora or department store that offers a wide selection of makeup brands before settling in on one you love. Be patient. Armed with your knowledge of your undertone, your skin type, and your coverage preference, ask a makeup representative to give you samples of several foundations. You’ll want to test them in natural light to ensure they blend seamlessly into your skin. Be aware you may need to use two different shades as skin of color can be multi-toned.

For a natural, everyday look, consider a light coverage foundation or tinted moisturizer. Once you find one that works for your skin, a tinted moisturizer will prove to be foolproof even to the most clueless of makeup rookies—you can even apply it with your fingers. Try a tinted moisturizer like Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer or Becca Luminous Skin Colour.

After you’ve applied tinted moisturizer (or foundation), take a look at your skin to see if you need more coverage, namely if you have dark undereye circles, hyperpigmentation marks, rosacea, etc. Most of the time, your foundation will cover these spots, but if not then you need concealer. As its name suggests, concealer helps to conceal discoloration. The color of the area you wish to conceal will determine the type of concealer you need to use. Get the 411 on concealer here.

Last, you’ll need to set your makeup with powder which not only “finishes” your makeup, but sets your foundation so it lasts. I’m absolutely in love with Becca Fine Loose Finishing Powder because it comes in so many shades for varying skin tones, but you can also use an easier to carry pressed powder like MAC Blot Powder which can also be used throughout the day to reduce shine. To prevent the “cakey” look, top all your makeup off with a few spritzes of MAC Fix+ Spray, an aqua-spritz of vitamins and minerals that adds radiance to the skin and finishes makeup.”

Hope that was helpful bombshells:)
Until next time…
