Fashion Mystery : The Case of Rihanna’s Vanishing Clothes

    by Claire

A consummate trendsetter, Rihanna has taken 2009’s no pants trend to a new level, initiating a no clothes trend for 2010:

Rihanna’s new cover for her single Rude Boy
Ever since she began promoting her hot Rated R album, the young lady most known for her fierce fashion sense has been wearing fewer and fewer actual articles of clothing:

Perhaps she wants us to focus on her singing talent instead of oggling her droolworthy arsenal of Alexander Wang dresses, Rick Owens leather jackets, and Gucci bags…?

It truly is a fashion mystery…

The TRUE Fashion Mystery is this: “How is it that she still manages to look so fashion-forward sans les vêtements???”

I agree, she looks surprisingly tasteful, even in just a tiny pair of Balmain shorts.

She looks Fab-U-lous! Look at her body! Just gorgeous! I’m sorry but Rih is rocking it. I think everyone forgets that she’s only 21 and she’s super famous & rich. She’s going through the classic, “young girl showing off hot body” faze, she’ll get over it soon enough. I went through mine from 18-21, and now I’m 24 I’m all covered up and loving it.

I agree with @LoudPen…I’m 25 and loving the grown, sexy and sophisticated styles now.

It is funny how fashion-forward she appears with less clothing…or are we all just used to applying this term to her? The hair, perhaps? hmmm

It’s annoying. She is (or her people are) are trying to make her edgy with the nakedness and silly videos (So Hard video/song both ridiculous), but it’s coming off as contrived and over the top. I’m a Rihanna fan, but am being turned off. I’m over her new image…or image at the moment…sure it will change soon.

She’s on a train heading straight to trashytown.

There’s nothing hotter than a woman who can be sexy with clothes on. At first it was edgy, now it’s just excessive. I’m 25 and I’ve never went through some hot young show off my body phase. I have too much respect for myself than to flash T&A when I can look just as good without doing that. Rih can too. She’s too beautiful to be in every magazine, video or concert wearing next to nothing when she can look that good if not better in a sexy dress or jeans.

No, this is more than just the 18-21 phase. Yes, I wanted to be sexy at 21, but not look like a whore. She reminds me of the type of girl who goes overboard and puts trashy pics all over her Facebook and Myspace (maybe thats wat she’d be doing if she wasn’t rich and famous). sometimes Beyonce seemed a little too sheltered to me, but a least her parents never let her wild out like this

sometimes you just go through this phase, all I can say is thnk God she has the body for it

hey, some ppl never snap out f that phase..look at lil kim and mariah carey. i say as long as she has the body for it, which is more than can be said for a LOT of ppl, she should wear what she wants. and i’m 25 and i like to show off my body too.

um…doesnt matter who u are, famous, not so famous…your body is personal and intimate…we dont need to see all that. I agree with being sexy while keeping your clothes on. im 23, nice body, not showing it! thanks!

There’s a difference between showing off your body and being naked, and she’s plain naked all the time. I see nothing wrong with a young girl showing off her beautiful, but Rhianna is just being trashy.

Poor thing. Rhianna doesn’t even know who Rhianna is. She was made. The fashion, the music. All created it for her. I hope she can truly one day find her own voice. This display of edgy is over the top and tried.

I agree with T, Rihanna would be hot if she were “Rihanna”, if that makes any sense. She looks great, but seems so dead behind the eyes. I actually think the photos are hot, but I don’t buy it from her. Plus I can’t stand how sometimes she refers to herself as Ri-Anna on mainstream media outlets. It’s almost like she is willing to change herself to a cross over pop star.

Rihanna is a famous singer, and gets paid by how many people buy her music and music videos. The more different and sexy a music video is the more likely it will be bought. Her clothing in magazines and in her music video doesnt make her trashy, it makes her rich. Alot of other singers also do this. For example Britney spears, beyonce, and ciara. They all have done stuff like this, its not a phase or anything. Its how they sell their music. It might not sound like a good reason, but for her, if she shows off her body she can make what some people earn in a year. If you were getting paid like that you would do it too. Unless you have issues with your body!!
