While these photos of the “Crunk & B” stunner in a recent L’Officiel magazine shoot were clearly photoshopped, her glowy skin is something you can mimic at home. Think more luminous skin and less Bruce Leroy from The Last Dragon. Here’s how to get this look:
1. Beautiful makeup starts with beautiful skin. It’s difficult to cover certain skin blemishes (like acne bumps) and still pull off that flawless skin look with makeup. Skin discolorations like hyperpigmentation, rosacea, and dark circles, however, can be covered. Start out with freshly cleansed, exfoliated, and moisturized skin according to your skin type. Harsh winter weather can cause the skin to be dull, dry, and flaky. Bring back your brilliance with a treatment like Clinique Turnaround Concentrate Visible Skin Renewer.
P.S. I recently got something called a “Glow Facial” at the Aveda Natural Look Salon that exfoliates the skin removing the top layer of dead skin cells. After about 45 relaxing minutes, your skin feels like a baby’s bottom. But the best part is that your makeup will look so much better after getting the Glow Facial. If you’re in New York City, you can snag this facial for $35 at the Aveda in Queens Center Mall. Ask for either Nikki or Rajni.
2. After you’ve cleansed and moisturized your skin, apply foundation (like NARS Balanced Foundation) only where you need it, gently blending with a foundation brush or makeup wedge (ok, you can use your fingers, too as long as you promise to rinse them off so they don’t interfere with the rest of your makeup application). Determine if any blemishes need to be covered after these steps and if so apply concealer. Many foundations pack enough power to cover blemishes so in some cases you won’t need concealer. Set the foundation with a light application of loose powder like Becca Fine Loose Finishing Powder.
3. Apply a peachy pink shimmery blush to the apples of the cheeks (try NARS Blush in Orgasm–it’s universally flattering).
4. Carefully apply luminizer like NARS The Multiple (St. Barts looks great on cool skin, while Palm Beach complements warm skin) in a backwards “C” motion going from the temples, around the apples of the cheeks and ending just by the hollows of the cheeks. Then apply it on the bridge of your nose, on the bow of your lip, and the tip of your chin.
5. Set the luminizer with a very light dusting of loose powder and a few spritzes of MAC Fix+ Spray (a must-have item in your makeup bag to add radiance to the skin, refresh your makeup, and avoid the dreaded “powder face” look)
And you’re done! You can freestyle with your eye and lip makeup now that you have such a gorgeous plane to work with. Now just TRY and pass by a mirror without blowing kisses at your reflection. Just try.
